One of the kings of a bygone age. Simple mechanics make for a game that is easy to pick up but still challenging and fun to play.
What stops it short of greatness (for me): this version uses what appear to be midi sound files, and not the original (and immeasurably superior) sounds of the Paula chip from the Amigas. Besides that, this is golden.
I bought this game from a friends recommendation. A recommendation made back when Amigas were around but I never actually got around to it until now.
I should have followed his advice sooner. This game is just fun, plain and simple.
It has a simple UI with simple mouse clicks controlling your Troop. The sound and graphics are truly Amiga which is great.
The one thing that annoys me is that when I try and skip the intro movie, every now and again the game crashes back to the desktop. Otherwise, great stuff!
Highly Recommended.
Classic line from a classic game.
Absolutely amazing startegy game that can be rock hard if you can't think fast.
The jist is simple. You get recruits, you go kill, sometimes you have to blow something up or rescue someone, you do that to end the mission and go onto next one. If you die, no problem, just use more recruits.
Just try to die too much otherwise you'll run out of recruits and it's GAME OVER!
You have a machine gun as standard with inf ammo, and you can get rockets and grenades (But use them sparingly, also stand FAR back!) and that's it, other than your wits. Oh, and there's also some nice vehicules to try out.
You can split your group of 4 up into teams so that you can just use more guy if you want, afterall it's a good way to do recon or maybe you're just better at fighting when you're only having to look after one guy.
There's only 11 levels BUT some levels are split up into phases, and the phases are regular level size, so there's actually more like 30.
So overall, get it, it's a fantastic game at an even better price!
It was fun at first but the completely unfair and random deaths setting back a big chunk of your progress quickly put me off.
For some reason the roofs of the huts you have to blow up constantly crashed on top of my soldiers and killed them all instantly, running away after throwing the grenade reduced it only a bit.
It was over the moment there are snipers with bazookas everywhere.
Even if you know the map, position of all the soldiers, huts and ammo-packages and try to hit the bazookas with your own missiles after collecting them, they till have a larger range of vision than you and the fact, that you can't control the camera directly juts makes it worse.
Even after managing the first two phases against all odds, there's always another one that is even worse and you can only save every fourth level or so.
After having ragequitted multiple times, I decided, that frustration is no fun and deleted it.
How did this become a classic?!
I'll try the second game soon but am prepared for the worst.
