Caesar 3

15 years later, there still is no real competition to Caesar 3, the best managerial strategy ever. The only not-so-good part of this game is the warfare, but you can avoid it completely in the peaceful missions. Difficulty is sometimes a bit high, some of you may even use the money cheat, but it's kinda ok, you still have to work hard to win every single mission. I install and play this game once a year or two, over and over again and still enjoy it a lot.

I adore this game, and rediscovered why I loved this as a child. Playing it today, I found that it has a very good tutorial and ingame information that presented a gentle learning curve - I was diving into a new city after a half hour stint in the tutorials without much difficulty.

This was one of my favorite games growing up. I remember how disappointing it was they moved away from the Caeser 2 style. Playing it again, I realize how far the series has come. Compared to the later titles, it feels...unpolished. My biggest irk is the lack of a roadblock, as in Pharaoh. It stops the aimless walkers from passing that point, but allows destination walkers through. A minor thing, but not having it is a huge headache when you're used to it. And the employment walkers are not something I missed. I know Pharaoh has them, but they don't seem to be as annoying as they are here. In short, a great game if you're playing the series in chronological order. Otherwise, I'd say head for the later titles and get the polish.

Arguably one of the most essential building/age simulators...ever. A blend of light strategy and thoughtful planning makes this one endlessly enjoyable. Containing both a moderately branched campaign and bonus, one off missions, the replay value is endless. Even more, a scenario editor lets you craft the easiest (or hardest) scenario to kick back and chill to.

One of my favorites - I spend many, many hours on this one. I have the original on CD-ROM that I played on my Win95 PC. One feature that always stood out was the user interface. Simple, intuitive yet comprehensive - I barely read the manual but was fully immersed in the gameplay almost immediately. For what GoG is charging for this one, it's a no brainer.
