More than a funny facade

I'm 31 years old and I've played games more than half of my life. Funny facades and marketed hypes do not work on me anymore as I've grown tired of the disappointments. Also, most A-grade games do not please me anymore as it is only more of the same, marketed differently. Needless to say, I was kinda sceptic to pick up this title but I did it anyway because it was on sale. Well... I do not regret buying it because something happened that I did not have in a long long time: I'm hooked to a game. The core of the game is no-nonsense. Shoot the crap out of bad guys in a full-destructable environment and release prisoners on the go. It's not more than that really but it allowed the developers to focus on the main aspect of the game; the gameplay. Controls are spot on, huge number of characters with each there own specials and way to play and the game can be a real challenge. More than a couple of times I've tried to successfully end the same mission for the 50th time. I do not even mind. Broforce puts the fun in funeral.

AMAZING GAME, BRO!!

Warning: Some Spoilers! Broforce is one of funnest games I’ve had the pleasure of playing in a long time! Not only is it a tribute to all the platform run & gun games of the past and the animated cartoon G.I. Joes, it also has many references of your favorite action heroes that any true movie go’er would enjoy! The game isn’t complex so anyone can jump right in and play while still having intense and challenging fire fights and boss battles that keep you on your toes. The campaign levels provide enough of a challenge that you’ll be satisfied for hours of gameplay. Fair warning to all who are about to play this, you will have nagging need to say “BRO!” to anyone you meet. Pro’s - Excellent gameplay - Intense and challenging fights with scores of enemies and Bosses - Great art and small but enjoyable story - Characters and enemies are well thought out from their strengths and weaknesses - Nostalgic feelings from the characters to the gameplay as each are a reference to an action movie or the old G.I. Joes cartoon and Contra style games - You will enjoy the different ways you can kill your foes, also the comedic ways your foes will kill each other by accident, and how you will die by accident when you thought you were away from the ‘fireworks’ - Solid 13 to 14+ hours from just single player alone plus the many hours you’ll spend trying to complete the Ironbro challenge! - If you are a fan of Cuphead I recommend this game to play next - Intense need to say “BRO!” Cons: - You can’t choose your characters so you’re going to have to learn each characters limitations (strength and weaknesses) to get through the level and bosses. This can be a pain but it’s also a pro as it adds fun to the challenge. - You’ll wish there was more levels to play after you beat it, it’s so fun you really wish it didn’t end. - Bosses, campaign and covert levels can be frustrating but keep at it, BRO! Looking forward to a sequel!!

Pure fun carnage!

Great fun to play and enjoy the mayhem that happens on the screen. - Destructible pixel world - enjoy breaking almost everything; - Tons of explosions; - Interesting characters inspired of the greatest Action hero movies; - Enjoyable for hardcore and casual fans alike; - Even more fun when player co-op. I have tons of hours of pleasure, playing this game with my son and family. You can't go wrong with this one! I recommend it for sure!

Fun with Flaws

This is straight forward game: kill the bad guys and fight the odd big boss. It’s not a game that takes itself too seriously, which both helps and hurts this game. The “Bros” are over-the-top: one moment, you’re Agent J, then Dirty Harry, and then Predator. Every Bro has a basic attack and a special and changes every time you pick up an extra life. This is the first flaw: while every Bro is good for fighting normal enemies, only a handful are any good for bosses. And given you have no choice over what Bro you have, you may have a few runs where you get stuck with terrible Bros and you’ll just end up dying. And given you’ll want extra lives, you may start a boss fight with a good Bro, but may have only one life, forcing you to choose between keeping the Bro you have and hoping you don’t die or picking up the extra life and getting a Bro that isn’t suited for bosses. Pretty much everything is destructible. You can blast your way through the ground and walls to reach or avoid enemies. Normally not a problem, but I ran into a few incidents where too much ground was destroyed and I couldn’t reach the next part of the level, ending my runs, as there’s only three Bros that can jump higher than the others. But the biggest frustration I had was with a few mini-bosses. A few are more or less satanic copies of earlier mini-bosses. A bit of a spoiler: the mini-boss that actually hurt this one for me was two worm-like mini-bosses. They fire what amounts to rapid-fire homing skulls that destroy any cover you may have had (while tracking you almost perfectly). Now, you can knock them out of the sky, but as they come from both sides, you have to jump around, while both these worms keep spitting out these skulls. But this isn’t the only attack: they spit acid that covers half of the field. It’s not impossible, as I beat the game, but I rage quit a few times because of it. Overall, this game is fun, but I’m not sure if I would keep coming back.

Funny but too messy for his own good.

Broforce brings to the table some engaging action packed gameplay, with shooting and jumping around while trying to stay alive, and it is accompanied by some interesting level design. However, we all know why we brought it : the bros! Indeed, most of the action heroes of the 90' are well represented, with some pixel art that really shines and some maniacal level detail that will leave your mouth wide open ( *insert 90' choke joke about a grenade stuck in a throat here*). In fact, every single piece of the scenery can be destroyed, open new paths, creating traps for your enemies or taking shelter from an orbital bombardment... and that's where the strong point of the game becomes its real problem: you'll spend so much time running around trying not to die that most of the time will be pure luck the reason the player can finish a level (which is fine for a couple of laughs, but then becomes frustrating). On top of that, while there a fun selection of characters, it's impossible to choose which one use and in some parts some boys are, well, useless. In the end, Broforce is a casual game that entertains and brings laughs with friends or even alone... that's before everything starts to explode, just right you reach the end of the level.
