I love the concept and idea of a mixture of "boomer" shooters and survivor games, but this one isn't cutting it... I played only 30 minutes of this game before I told myself "No, this game doesn't work".
Why ? Because you are going to spend most of your time staring at hordes of enemies, shooting each individual foe with a weapon with a slow rate of fire that can basically down only one of them at once wishing that like in any FPS you had a grenade. The even made the Uzi a pea shooter can can only fire a burst for 2 seconds making it pretty similar to any other gun. The game could have perhaps saved itself by making magic more interesting but no... you can summon 2 ticks that randomly attack the closest enemy that you are probably going to shoot anyway. I know I might be unfair with this game, perhaps later when you grind things will become better, but vampire survivor didn't ask me to grind before giving me weapons to deal with multiple enemies. Speaking of upgrades, they all are just + X damages and increased reload speed, they do not genuinely change how weapon works, they just flat give you out more DPS to deal with enemies with more HP.
I think that these observations makes quite a good deal of the lack of play testing that went into this game and how poorly thought it is as a game. Its really too bad because the graphical part is amazing, it nails its inspiration very well, thus why I'd give it an extra star. I really wanted this game to work and but it doesn't its very disappointing and I hope the developers can improve and fix things in the long run so I can perhaps write an addendum to this review saying everything has been fixed, but for now I'd recommend people play something else.
If you want a fun FPS where you have to deal with hordes of monsters and are given the tools right away to deal with the problem that aren't gated behind a meta progression XP system, I'd recommend Painkiller Black or Serious Sam.
