Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

I grew up playing the Soul Reaver games and was always drawn in by the fantastic voice acting as well as the philosophical flare and excellent story. As I grew older I got hold of the rest of the games and now I've landed with the original, beside the fundamental problem with hitboxes I'd say this is a stellar titel. The atmosphere and gothic artstyle is very charming and the dungeon crawls with puzzels combined with the zelda-style world progression is right up my alley. It brings me great joy to revisit one of my absolute favourite game series after all these years; I truly believe it is a solid classic.

A classic Gothic-Horror action adventure of the 1990s, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is a 32-Bit, 5th-Generation game in the style of Zelda, Golvellius, Golden Axe Warrior etc. Blood Omen is a game for fans of Diablo, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Iron & Blood: Warrior of Ravenloft, Cardinal Syn, Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption, Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi, Blood etc. The atmosphere, music, acting, & story-telling are amazing, even by contemporary standards, which is why this game is such a highly regarded CLASSIC.

I remember playing it as a child and somehow beat it. The fact playing as an adult i had to use help online a lot really says something lol. It can be vague in what you need to do and has big difficulty spikes, but it's fun.

Even today, long since the mouse and modern controller have rendered the arrow keys and D-pad useless, the controls, though clunky and jank, hold up. Blood Omen Legacy of Kain is such a classic, that even today people remember the name. Though most due to the Soul Reaver games, I still remember playing this as a child. Insanely enough, one of the most hidden secrets in this game was only recently discovered in the last couple of years. That's the depth this game went to. With the incomparable Simon Templeman as Kain and the legendary Tony Jay (Who also appeared in the later entries in the series) as well as a well crafted narrative, masterfully written dialogue, you are guarenteed to, at the least, enjoy the plot and characters of the game. Kain himself narrates his own story, as he is assassinated and brought back to life as a Vampire, every bit of lore is touched by his biased, bitter opinions, from every village and character, to every weapon, spell and item. This is the game that cemented Kain as an iconic video game character, the begining of an epic spanning 5 games. I can't recommend it enough.

Surprisingly good, Holds up quite well. Recommend using a controller. the keyboard I found to be quite akward with all the menuimg.
