Blood 2 is a very funny Splattergame! Ok, the First Part is better but this Game is not bad! The Graphics are better and the Controlls are better! Must have for Blood-and Oldschool-Hooterfans!
What everyone loved about the first spurt of Blood was its creepy and Gothic atmosphere. Graveyards, crematoriums, plague hospitals, carnival shows... This game has none of the above. I remember playing it for the first time, just after installing the revolutionary Riva TNT graphic card, and I was actually thrilled for the first five seconds, fleetingly amazed by the smooth graphics, and then - nothing. A routine SF shooter with no atmosphere at all. The only strong feeling I still keep of it is acute boredom. Avoid at all cost. Life is too short.
Well , people tend to hate this game and i know why...
buggy gameplay, unfinished overall feeling , reused assets....
but i've got to admit that i like this game because it tried and because it represents the ending of the golden decade of FPS.
it has its moments. what is finished and acomplished stands out like some enemys, levels, music.
It marks the return of Caleb and 90's humour.
The simplicity of theses kind of shooters is just appealing.
In the end it is the one that binds the first to possible future games of the series.
i've played games with higher praise and scores that were less fun.
don't decide what you like always based on others reviews...i say follow your own taste.
Good? Bad? Caleb is the guy with the guns.
Blood II is the perfect example of what happens when a publisher decides they want a full game on half a game's time and budget. The level design is a mess, the characters are ugly (even for the era), the music doesn't hit home like the first game... nothing sticks its landing. Nothing feels as good as the first game and barely holds a candle to many of the much better 3D shooters cropping up at the time. Doesn't help that this is made on Monolith's horrifically inconsistent Lithtech engine. It's a miracle F.E.A.R. turned out as good as it did. Tell you what. You want a true and worthy Blood sequel? Get the original game here on GOG, grab a sourceport that supports mods like BuildGDX or NBlood, then go to ModDB and snag the Death Wish mod. It's a fan made, three episode long, full game length sequel, picking up after the events of the first game that goes above and beyond anything this dog-water official seuqel could ever hope to accomplish. Heck, I'd say it's even better than the first game. Has a whole frickin' Silent Hill inspired level. You want Blood II? Play Death Wish.
There is gore. You get health from the hearts of the dead. There are guns. There are dual-wielded saw-off shotguns, a minigun, a napalm cannon (not flamethrower, think splash damage) and a hand held howitzer artillery piece. Plus other odd bits of hardware. It has addictive multi-player and even a decent story for the single player. These same guys eventually made F.E.A.R. This one is before they figured out decent A.I. The only downfall is the single-player is target practice on a pop-up range.
