Well... that was embarrassingly bad... I lasted about half an hour, though I have no idea how... I know it's indie and all, but it's ugly, the movement feels off, the interactions are straight out of 20 years ago, and the gunplay—there are just no words... And that's coming from someone who absolutely loves Lovecraft — I adore his stories and the board games based on them — but this was a bad joke.
so, this game has a two person dev team - i commend them for shooting their shot, and i commend them for hanging out on the Steam community forums and taking feedback. unfortunately, they released a game that's broken at high resolution, high refresh rate and anything approaching high end (for context - R7 5700X, RX 7900 GRE, CPUs a little under recommended and GPUs a little over). if you're at 1080p with a very modest system, you *might* be ok. if you're anything approaching recommended, stay away for now
i fear that this game is borked enough that it constitutes a serious epilepsy risk. "stutter" is how the experience is described, but that doesn't quite capture the magnitude of the problem - it's as if the game internally runs at 30fps, uses framegen to render up to 60, and the framegen frames are 3 frames too slow and out of sequence. it's consistent judder that's headache inducing.
for what it's worth, i like the atmosphere of the game so far, what little of it i was able to play. sincerely wish the devs the best in fixing their game.
First to address the issues with stuttering in the other reviews, it has received its first patch and the devs have promised more to come.
I am playing at 1440p on a high end system and while turning sometimes isn't as smooth as it should be, the game is playable with very little stuttering (in my current experience).
Someone asked me in chat if the game is like F.E.A.R. and I feel that is a good comparison. If anything, it feels like it could be a mod for that game, albeit the enemy AI isn't as good.
The graphics are ugly to be blunt. They look like something from the 2010 - 2015 era.
Sound is ok, voice acting is passable, monster noises and gunfire are all ok.
The game starts very slowly with an underwater section (everytime you are in water, your movement slows to a snails pace) and then you wind up on your ship that has been attacked and these two segments may well put a lot of people off the game.
On the ship there is very little you can interact with and paths are often blocked railroading you in a certain direction (you cannot jump in this game).
It is once you get to the underwater stations and find some decent weapons that the game comes alive.
You have three types of enemy -
1. Soldiers - use your machine guns and assault rifles on these.
2. Undead or reanimated corpses - use the crowbar and pistol to take these down (except the fat ones, they take a lot of damage to put them down).
3. Monsters - if possible, save your shotgun ammo for these guys as they can be bullet sponges with other weapons.
The game has good atmosphere as you make your way through each station, trying to get a cure for your daughter who has been infected with the disease that turns humans into undead.
You are quite squishy (even on easy mode), gun fights with humans aren't too much of a problem as you duck in and out of cover, but the monsters will come right for you and you can't take much damage from them.
I am 10 hours into the game and after initialy not being impressed, I am really enjoying it now and can see it being one of those rare things - a game that I actually complete.
Hi the video looked cool,
but they are a very big problem of the image to shuttering
after you leaved the ocean and get on boat,
when you move the camera it's almost like the image return to the previous image at every frame, it's the first game ever to give me headhache, never get this problem on any game.
I tested all the configuration possible ingame and you cannot fix this look like a UE5 problem surely
And there a big problem with not cut dialogue that are very very long.
Very not playable for now....
The game looks great but the gamepla is a bit lacking. The game structure and mechanics is similar to a typical resident evil type game. Limited ammo, enemies, and unblanced gameplay. With some work this could be a decent game.
