Fine
For me Beholder straddled the line between being great and mediocre, never leaning too far in either direction. I would hesitantly recommend it to people who are interested in the idea of what you are doing, but only while on sale. The ideas are solid and even though I went in ready to the government's bidding, I ended up getting tangled up with the people in my apartments and even caring about them by accident. Still, most of the game felt boring and at times I found myself just actively waiting for something to happen, only for a lackluster climax or even more waiting.

A glimpse into an Orwellian society
In some ways I am finding this game disturbing. It is easy to envision how such an oppressive, totalitarian society could develop and how the members of that society are pitted against each other. It starts off easy enough, report bad people to the police, send innocuous reports profiling your tenants. This, however the proverbial slippery slope. How far will you got to preserve the peace? What is the price for betraying the neighbors you serve? As far as the mechanics of the game; there's a shallow learning curve to understanding the controls. All interactions and navigation are mouse driven. The stylized, simplistic graphics emphasize the bleak world in which you are playing. The audio is akin to the mumbling gibberish used in The Sims, although it does get repetitive after a while. The background music fits well. The plot itself is straightforward, with clearly defined tasks to be completed in order to progress through the narrative. If you are someone who likes being nosey and prying into your neighbors' lives, this game might be right up your alley - provided you can also stomach destroying their lives. I've found it captivating, and keep expecting the other shoe to drop in this surveillance state.

Landlord from hell done right.
Compared to some other games which in this genre are minimal this one ads quite a lot. Story is progressive and plays out based on your decision during the game, multiple endings are available and on top of that different achievements can be obtained. Game itself has many fun elements such as spying, interacting with tenants in form of their items, discussion dialogues and choices that you would be putting upon them. If you didn't like Neighbor series of games I would still give this a try since it ads few extra dimensions that completely twist this genre around.
