Can't beat MechCommander

I've been waiting for a game like this since 1999. Finally, proper Battletech action! You get to control 'Mechs again on the strategy end of the spectrum! ...or you would, if the damn thing didn't crash all the f*cking time. I mean, seriously? This is the final product? I've played barely more than an hour, had to mess around with processor and driver settings to even make it run, had one freeze, two hard crashes just to make it past the very first tutorial mission... this is what people get for 40-50 bucks nowadays? Should I buy my games on Steam so I can refund useless crap like this? If this was a 'Mech, the way it's cobbled together, it'd fall apart before taking a single hit... While they patch it up (if they patch it up at all), I'll just... go and play through again what seems to remain the undisputed king of Battletech strategy / tactical games: MechCommander.

Good game but way too slow

Obviously some folks have been having real trouble getting this game to run. Suspect this is due to it needing a really high spec machine and graphics card. However if you can get it to run its pretty good. Main problem is its amazingly slow moving between scenarios and strategic modes. To make matters worse the longer you play it the slower this transition gets. For the first couple of scenarios it takes about 10-20 secs but the more you play the slower it gets such that after a couple of hours the delay may be 10- 20 MINUTES!!!. Good news is that save and restart will set it back to a few seconds! As to gameplay.... Could be a bit quicker but its adequate. Doesnt appear to be much tactical depth at first try but its in there and it does repay a bit of thought.... Actually problem is largely the lack of a decent manual as much as anything. Took me ages to make multi targeting work but after that its very handy not to waste all your goodies on one silly little tank! Still not totally sure what all the status bars mean exactly Strategically its tricky to keep enough cash in the bank but suspect that will improve over time Once they sort out the ridiculous time delays this may well turn out to be a REALLY good game

Needs optimisation. GPU is 100% even on hand drawn cut scenes.. Feels almost like they are cryptomining. Otherwise feels like decent game so far.

Just one more mission, again.

The real star here is the combat system. How turning an arm with nothing in it towards incoming fire can shield yours weapons and render the enemies hits nearly meaningless. How indirect fire over a hill will rain down from above and cause massive damage to the most important areas of a target, how water can help cool your machines or provide relief for the enemy. Positioning is critical, targeting legs or cockpits so you can salvage the equipment you need to continue your war essential, having a pilot out due to injury will affect your bottom line and leave you struggling to decide wither or not you should take on the expense of hiring another pilot just so you can run a full lance into your next mission. You will agonize over your decisions, you'll cheer wildly when you punch another mechs face in, you'll curse and gnash your teeth as that expensive cannon gets shot off your favourite mech. Now the bad bits. The tutorial is lacking, and badly needs improvement. The game is poorly optimized and needs some work to run smoothly on lower spec systems. Load times are on the long side. Voice acting is a little hokey, and the overall plot won't leave you captivated. The game will however keep you clicking on the next mission many hours after you should have fallen asleep, this is pure turn based joy and any fans of mechwarrior or turn based strategy should certainly give it consideration.

A hell of a game ! Thx CohhCarnage

To be honest, when I first heard of the game I wasn't hyped at all but the first few hours of stream by Cohh made me buy the game. I'm now at 35-+ hours. A really interesting combat system + strategy. Good OST + Graphics. Broad Custom possibilities Good storylines + side stories. Now here where I have some problems with the game : Not really optimize : I have a really nice PC but the loading are a little slow + there is a few freeze when you destroy a Mech. Some weapons are kinda useless. There is a few "little" bugs like the save disappearing (which you just have to relaunch the game) or the fact that the more save you have the slower you get . Overall I really enjoyed the game so far and I'm gonna enjoy it a lot because i'm not even near the end and that's really cool.
