I actually played it and it's fun

Siege of Dragonspear is being unfairly reviewed by some bigots. I'm giving the game 5 stars where it probably deserves 4, to help counter some of the negative reviews that aren't based on the game at all. First and foremost, I don't understand how the inclusion of a transgender NPC with an OPTIONAL dialogue is, as many reviewers put it, "shoving an agenda down my throat." Take off the tinfoil hats, people. There is no "agenda." It's one trans character. Get over it. I was glad to see Beamdog had the balls to include her, honestly. Second, let's talk about the actual game. Cons: The black outlines around the characters is a little ugly, but I got over it in about 30 seconds. There are a couple of non-game breaking bugs (this is why it deserves a 4). Pros: It's really fun. They got many of the same voice actors to come back and work on this title. Did I mention it's fun? Finally, get over the trans character. Or, don't talk to her. If you can't handle a trans character in a game... you're not going to like the future.

Wonderful exploration of old ideas.

Just love how they with the use of modern day memory can go back and build new content for such an "old engine" . And this is way more than just a fan-fiction. It's the real deal. Shows that everything doesn't have to be about the latest pixel shader, and that there is still some juice and corners left in decades old sript systems to explore aside from the Sword Coast itself that is.

Long story short, there's a character who makes an offhanded remark that she's transgendered, and one of the creators made a remark about how the original Baldur's Gate was kind of sexist and how they were going to remedy that. They did so in a fairly hit or miss way, admittedly (by trying to build the character of characters who never really had any in the first place *because* they were sexist stereotypes to begin with), but apparently even marginal efforts to be inclusive and progressive are enough to send GamerGaters into an enormous bitch fit. So when you see people talking about it being "not Baldur's Gate" and "pushing a political agenda on you", what they mean is "one of the writers said something I don't like and I'm so terrified by transgendered people that a minor NPC offhandedly mentioning that they're trans is enough to send me into conniptions and give a perfectly serviceable game a one-star review. I'm playing on a mediocre computer at best and have had only a couple crashes, seen no real bugs to speak of except for a few graphical glitches, and basically find everything in the game to be at least "close enough". I'm happy to see people doing something with the Baldur's Gate licence enough that I'm willing to forgive a sketchy launch and some less-than-stellar writing at times. It's a shame that there are apparently so many gamers terrified and intimidated by the mere presence of a single minor NPC being transgendered and women doing the writing for one of their franchises that they have to abandon it completely to soothe their bruised egos. SoD isn't perfect, but it deserves better than a bunch of whiny self-persecuting GamerGaters crying about how Steam and Beamdog don't feel obligated to indulge their self-persecuting baby-d**ked screeching.

Yay for more Baldur's Gate!

I'm leaving this review to counteract the reactionary one-star reviews left by transphobic atavisms. I'm currently hip-deep in Dragon Age: Inquisition right now (Go Krem!), but once I'm done with that, I plan to buy this game and fully anticipate enjoying it.

A Slapdash Attempt

To start, I think I speak for many people in that I'd sooner dip my pen in the Lady of Pain than continue playing this. It's true that this game was going to fill thousands of people with nostalgia, myself included. I bought this the day after it was released despite the less than admirable behavior from consumers and the developer alike. That being said, the reviews that are claiming that this game is filled with bugs are correct. Some mods, if not all of them, no longer work properly. Though one could surmise that this was to be expected considering it is the (2.0) patch for the Enhanced Edition of an age-old game. The game is also known to crash periodically, though it will quickly wear on one's nerves. I've also seen several reviews complaining about the graphics. Just to clear the air, the developer (Beamdog) had to start from scratch with the 3D aspects and such. This is due to the originals, being on a tape of sorts, being completely lost to flooding in someone's house. This being said, I'm being very fair with this review and I'm going to give Beamdog a chance to redeem itself with this nearly bug-ridden reject. If you patch this properly and do a worthwhile job in the attempt, I shall then be inclined to revisit this review and up the score. However, this is only contingent upon Beamdog getting its act together on this gibbering mass of insanity. Get to it and show me what you've got. Prove me wrong. Reject everyone else's reality and substitute a more fitting one.
