This is the first game I've played since The Witcher 3 where I can feel that the studio was focused on making a great game for the players, not the shareholders. Truly amazing!
Graphics are good and environmentals are beautifully-designed.
But the game has too many flaws and bugs which made me uninstall and regret spending 60€ for it.
Still don't know why this game gets all the awards in the world for being such a buggy mess.
I’ve not played much yet... just one thing that I’ve noticed so far is that the quality of ‘cut scenes’ that are made using the in game models is lacking and that I prefer the dos version of this, where there simply were not cut scenes. I think that a game this big will struggle to make the cut scenes good enough.... who knows, just very initial thoughts on this
( - ):
* Performance problems with higher than minimum requirements
* Memory leaks
* UI/Spellbars clunky for non-regular(16:9) aspect ratios
* Texture streaming problems
* 75 FPS, but stuttering, software freeze(able to move mouse)
* Dialogue animations not loading
* No choice for Deity unless cleric
* No Multiclass
* No indepth character creation (alignment, feats, random rolls, etc)
( + ):
* Incredible cinimatics
* Non-Lethal combat option
* Auto-Skilchecks for party
* Random seed generation (new rolls on gameload)
* Updated Spell VFX
* Freedom to roleplay
All in all a nice game in its own way, however un-playeable/enjoyable in its current state.
I am a old dog of the FR of AD&D and 2nd Ed. I didn't keep up with the TT RPG via v3-v5. I did hear about the changes from friends though. But because of the new rules and the diligent work put in by Larian this is a game world I fantasized that could be made when I was a kid. A completely organic D&D world.
To the negatives.
- it's not D&D/FR: It is. These are the new rules that stripped out all the crappy learning curves to play the TTRPG. No longer do GM's have to tell players, "No you can't because the rules say you can't."
- They are stealing all my info with magic DRMs: No. Bottom right corner on the startup window is Skip login, click it.
- Game is buggy: Uhmmm a little. A lot less than the normal released games of this size.
- Main story arc/it's not BG: It reminds me a lot of ES: Oblivion. I didn't win the main story arc for YEARS. Was too busy screwing around with side quests and doing random "stuff." If your a power grinder who wants to go from beginning to end in a day, this game won't be your cup of tea. If your perfectly content just dicking around forgetting there is a main story arc... this is your game. I won BG 1&2 and those games are nothing like this one which is perfectly fine by me.
