-game lol i wish they had just taken another year to finalize everything rather than making me uninstall and reinstall over and over to download new updates every few months
The game's in a pre-alpha state at the moment, a lot of things are missing and very few of them are working correctly. In my opinion it's way too unstable, buggy and unfinished even for an early access release. Unless you're a mega fan, or you want to pay full price to be a Larian QA tester basically, i can't recommend this game to you right now. I had several ctd, framerate drops, stuttering issues and many gamebreaking bugs, overall not a good experience. We were supposed to give our feedback but with so many technical issues and missing content, right now even that makes no sense. I'm a huge fan of the series and i trust Larian, i'm positive this will be a good game in the future but it was released too early. So wait for now, save your money you're not missing out on anything. I'll update this in the future.
I am coming from the Divinity titles which I LOVED - without a background in BG and no knowledge about it. I know the game is in early access but this is not the reason I am giving it a 1 star. This randomization/dice rolling is taking the fun out of the game and it adds a huge element of randomness which makes you feel like you are not in control of anything. The spells and character upgrade paths are so overly complicated I have finished playing for over 6 hours and I have no idea what is going on and what I am doing. If this is not enough they have added so many different action profiles (such as bonus action, etc) and many combinations of each and what is worse to replenish most of them you have to go to camp each time!
Great presentation, story, voice acting, and exploration. Decent graphics and music.
The gameplay and combat unfortunately become far too tedious over time (by end of Act II I was absolutely sick of it). I think this is because of 5e. Combat was the highlight of DOS2, so it's not like Larian doesn't know how to make fun and strategic combat. But the battles in BG3 are repetitive, drawn out, and horribly balanced. They mostly feel far too easy, but then the few battles that are hard feel frustrating instead of challenging. Too much dependence on RNG. The puzzles, traps, and excess of useless and boring items become a chore after a while. It doesn't feel that exciting to get new gear because it doesn't help much, is pretty rare, and is surrounded by garbage loot that makes looting a chore. 5e is also just way too simple and limiting, not to mention a level cap of 12. NWN2's 3.5e character building options were far better.
If you care more about story and dialogue you will likely love this game. But if you're like me and engaging gameplay is the absolute most important thing, it might not keep your attention through the end. I quit in Act 3.
Measured by the other released games, this game is great.
It does not look as great as other games, but you don't need 5000€ system to play it barely
with FSR or other upscalers.
Good:
- voice acting is great
- the various areas are beautiful
- usage of right-click for a context menu is a great idea
- party inventory is a great idea too
- having multiple quicksaves is fantastic
But there are some problems with the progress or the flow:
- it is intended to use the environment for boss fights. Well, from some environments the help
got either reduced or replaced with something, that can't be really used as help, because of the
strength of the boss. Players of early access discovered that and that helped me to realize, why
particulary one fight was extremely difficult
- some classes have a disadvantage in the game
- it is the D&D rule set, but sometimes the feeling appears, that the game(master) is fighting against
you and wants you to fail
- inventory is too cluttered, especially through books and notes. At least notes should disappear and
be part of the journal
- at the beginning gold is a problem, but at the end the shops don't have enough (good) items to buy
- missing hints, that some objects are only to gain gold. Carried iron bars with me for a while
- I have the same opinion, act 3 seems to be rushed
- UI is a bit too small, thankfully exists a mod to fix that
