I am a die hard fan of both BG1 and BG2 from back in the day - This is a worthy successor to the franchise.
It does an amazing job of replicating a fun and cahllenging PC game experience as well as replicating a tabletop D&D game.
I am utterly hooked!
well done Larian Studios.
As most, I absolutely love this game. So, why 4 stars? No tutorial, really. It took me very long to figure out what to do and how to do it. I had to get a friend who had already been playing the game to help me along with YouTube. Typically that would kind of be a 1 or 2 star for me but holy cow. Once I got accustomed to the playstyle and everything the game has blown me away in every aspect.
The voice acting and music is 5 star. The animations are probably the best I have ever seen. I denied the romantics of one of my team members and their sad looks they gave as they walked away was so heart breaking I was truly torn.
The environment is gorgeous and highly interactive. The options seem endless.
Everything is just so freaking good, if you can figure out how to play and put a little time in you WILL love this game.
Awful game entirely based on RNG, your character build doesn't matter it's just miss miss miss miss, roll low damage, crit failure.
I didn't think Larian could make a game more tedious to play than DOS2, but I underestimated them.
On top of that it's still full of bugs and some things feel rushed or unfinished ( like the game seeing KO'd enemies as dead, or some outcomes when you fail a dialogue roll ).
They tried to cram DnD rules into their Original Sin formula and it doesn't work.
60 euros wasted.
[EARLY ACCESS REVIEW]
I bought this game to play with my BF and we love it so much even after all those bugs and weird interactions. The game it's really immersive and you have multiple ways to deal with a lot of situations (which was great in D:OS saga), something that's closer to the tabletop RPG experience.
Being able to explore, especially with friends, add a lot of dynamic growth to the game. I'm really excited to keep playing this game and uncover a whole new way to live the same game over and over again.
Obviously this is different from Baldur's Gate previous installments, both in depth (narrative) and in mechanics (system is based on 5E), but I still think this is a really innovative way to experience Baldur's Gate (and D&D) rich and vast world.
It still need to polish some elements to have a distinct identity (which I think it's necessary to live this game as a independent entity, avoiding comparisons to other Larian games) and at the same time still feeling like a part of the Baldur's Gate universe.
I'm happy for this game and we are waiting for the full release, and I'm proud to watch this game grow and change based on feedback and community.
Please be aware that a lot of people are doing bad reviews of the game without understanding that this is a EARLY ACCESS, with a limited content, a lot of bugs and subject to FEEDBACK. If you think something could change, guys at Larian are really welcoming and understanding, so don't be afraid to express what you think could be better (I'm doing that a lot haha).
There's a reason the rating it's better with verified owners, just saying.
