A DOS 2 sequel NOT a BG 2 sequel

Is this game good? Its cool. There is fun to be had. What's the problem with this game then? Its not true to the BG series and here is how: BG 3 is more of a DOS game than a BG game. While BG 3 is still a cool game, I'm lowkey mad that BG 3 messed with the BG series DNA For staters, combat in BG is supposed to be pausable realtime not turnbased. BG is supposed to rely more on well written dialogues and narration than pompous cinematics. Like why do your companions get jealous of you if you talk to one before the other? They're supposed to be my character's party of comrades not my character's harem of lovers. I understand they were trying to make the companions more interactive and lifelike this way but they went kinda overboard with it that it came off as creepy rather than interactive. Also the characters writing feels rather stereotypical like at this point, If you played other Larian games, the writing should feel rather familiar to you. Like I had much much more fun revelling in the slaughter alongside my dwarf comrade Korgan Bloodaxe in BG 2 than I had being the the mediating mom among Astarion, Shadowheart and that lusty githyanki in BG 3 I'm also fairly disappointed by the game trying to appeal to the players with more sexual content in the game, dirty jokes and "funny" sexual events or remarks. It feels cheap. BG series appealed to players with the good writing and the sense of adventure it has and the amazing dialogue rather than sexual content and pompous graphics. Games from the PF series would be more fitting as a sequel to BG 2 than BG 3 is even if PF is a whole other different series with whole other rules and other different features than BG. That's how far apart BG 3 is from the BG series regardless of whether it is a good game or not. If its different, it should have been a spinoff of the BG series rather than being a sequel that overwrites the DNA of the series. This is just quite insulting to BG 1 and 2 fans if you ask me.

Super fun gameplay, atrocious writing.

Amazing gameplay (if you don't care about balance too much), fun exploration, *excellent* encounter design. This alone makes BG3 worth playing. Sadly, the overall experience is dragged down by simply unfinished Act 3 and sometimes truly awful writing. Main plot storylines are mangled into a horrible mess by late rewrites. Larian did everything to fight, maim, warp and undermine the main gimmick of the plot (illithid tadpole). It's fascinating to watch. And headache inducing. I'm giving it 3 stars, it will probably rise to 4 stars with the Finished Edition.
