BG1:EE is still not a great game but a good one. This version uses the graphics and UI from its successor and introduces some new content. The added content isn't noteworthy and if you happen to own the original game: it had preexisting mods that would shape into a similar experience for $0. It also introduces some new bugs, the party movement even became worse.
Still i recommend this if you dont want to bother yourself modding the orginal game. Its quick to install and runs smoothly on modern tech. It just does not really feel "enhanced".
This is a game that is BEGGING for someone to remake to today's graphic standards. Unfortunately this game has some odd issues that may or may not be related to the updated remake.
For instance, 5 out of 7 tries I die during an encounter. After reloading back to the same spot, I don't die but others in my party do... after reloading again, no one dies and the encounter is a complete success with no one in the part getting injured.
Issues like this will make you annoyed at the 'gambling' aspect of the game. It doesn't matter how good your weapons or armor is, the game is ALL ABOUT CHANCE.
I'm not knocking the developers on an amazing game. But perhaps it is the design aspect of the game that I'm struggling with.
In the end, perhaps I should pick the lowest level difficulty instead of the default difficulty. YMMV
No matter what class I take, or where I go, every single side quest has me fighting 20 enemies who 1 shot my tank. I ran as a Human Cavalier with a 93 roll during creation, decked in the best armour I can get at level 1 and I'm just not able to make progress. It's boring. Would rather play Morrowind, or something else where putting effort into your character is rewarding rather than arbitrarily difficult.
I wanted to play the game that I missed when I was a kid and many people swears on it... For me... Well - it's complicated. In comparison with first Fallouts there are many mechanics that I don't really care about. I finished the game on the story mode and I can see some appeal, but it is barely playable. I don't use magic at all and I may the second game play a little differently. So far I am glad I did play it, it was not an excelent experience for me though.
