Play the original instead, preferably on a virtual machine. It does run for me under windows 11 though.
The EE has been improved a lot but is still a degenerate way to experience the OG game. The new characters and kits from BG2 make the entire experience very unbalanced and easy to the point you NEED to install difficulty mods like scs for any challenge.
Pray that GoG.com continues to include the original versions of the classic infinity engine games and we're all screwed. Beamdog are hacks.
The new characters are indeed intrusive, but most irritating to me is that the ToB and ToSC are not even included. How old is this game? And you people are still making money off of it, but didn't package the add-ons into it? Instead, you had to mess around with the original in ways that I can do by just downloading mods. Sadly, I cannot mod this version like I want to, because of the missing components. This was a waste of money. I really wish people would stop chaning things just to change them.
It seems that after SoD Beamdog has led the Political Correctness Army into BG: EE too. The latest version introduces "language smoothing" of a kind as early as the Prologue. But what is really annoying are all the questionable GUI changes and the stability issues it has brought into the rock-solid version. I reverted the latest patch in GOG Galaxy, but the game is still unstable and I cannot do a clean reinstall of the previous version as it is no longer available for download. Therefore my initial 5-star rating gets demoted to a 3-star one - patches are supposed to improve things, not make them worse!
