Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition

GOG there is a classic version??????????

Baldur's Gate 2 is a potentially good game which is entirely ruined by its unplayably bad combat system and its disastrous decision to try (and fail) to implement D&D as a real-time game, as well as its choice of the pretentious and self-important Forgotten Realms campaign setting.

Cant stand nor will I ever support a company that begs for positive reviews, takes credit for others' work, shoehorns modern political issues into beloved titles, and demeans people with whom they disagree with politically. This is a review of Beamdog as a company, and not the game

Sadly, this "enhanced edition" is anything but - the game currently contains nearly 400 confirmed bugs, many of which are game-breaking and require constant reloading (the majority of which are concentrated in the new content, which rather ruins the main reason to prefer this over the originals). Support has been non-existent since November of last year, and they're only now getting around to beta-testing a patch - a process that can (and probably will) take another six months. Someday this game might reach a condition that justifies its price. But for now, I strongly advise avoiding wasting your time and money on an inferior version of an existing game.

What kills the game for me is the terrible combat system (realtime with pause) which plays pretty much like Warcraft. Unfortunately the AI is braindead and has your party members running brainlessly into traps and mages into suicide by trying to melee heavy hitting enemies. You give your party members orders, which they briefly follow before doing something stupid. You're going to be smashing the pause button every couple of seconds to micromanage your dummies anyway, so why WHY realtime??? The ONLY way to go with party based RPGs is turn based. Luckily Baldur's Gate 3 is made by competent developers who realized that making BG 3 the ONLY part of the series to recommend. Yes, the story might be good, the characters might be good, too, but what good is it when the game is garbage?
