This game, probably really long, has made already a lasting impression on me. I don't know exactly what the story is supposedly, but at the same time, I kind of do, and I feel it helps me.
I bought this on Steam (would have waited to buy it on GOG but I was too excited) as soon as it came out and have been playing through it both multiplayer and solo. The solo experience had some bugs, but nothing that seemed game breaking. However it was either due to the newest "enhancements" that the game got bad, or it was some disconnect between single player and multi. AC was all messed up and we couldn't tell what affected it at all as we could remove armors, add them back and it would change what seemed to be randomly. Illithids now can 1 shot kill everyone in your party, (rather than draining your intelligence and killing you off) which made making it through those dungeons incredibly frustrating. These were the worst bugs, game crashing/dropping someone from multiplayer I can deal with, but there are a lot more.
As for the good though, the new character classes were fun to experiment with (again, if you can figure out how the buggy system levels them up in any way that makes sense with their description) there are some new weapons to pick up along the way and some old with new abilities, I don't remember any bows having unlimited ammo from the vanilla version. New NPCs add a little, with side quests. Also rolling for characters is much easier to look at if you really like to power game and max stats at character generation.
So buy it and hope that Beamdog keeps supporting it and putting out new upgrades that fix it rather than break it, or play the original.
Have to say, I've played every single version, every single update, and around half the mods (the one's that looked goodish anyway)
This Version in particular, in addition to having the obvious spitshine, brought back the mighty Neera, queen of..... chitter chitter..... Sorry got turned into a squirrel for a minute.
Half the Reviewers complain about mindflayer instwipeouts, hate to tell ya this, but welcome to Faerun, that's what they're SUPPOSED to do.
This actually FIXES the issues I encountered in both bg1 and bg2, with horrid basilisks that instastone, ridiculous 6 spells per round magi, skeletons that litteraly took more damage then a dragon and kept going.... the list goes on.
I have NEVER encountered such an issue here, beemdog actually did well, tho I'm not a big fan of the char outlines for bg1ee, you can toggle those....
As for anything else, the writing for the extras flow's almost the same as the original's, the graphics look far better than any mod I ever found, the spells more fit the pnp versions, the only real issue I had was the simple one, I couldn't type exactly what I wanted my Character to do, and have them do it. Alas! something nobody has ever managed outside the normal way! ALAS, I must rage quit and scream and wail until the stars change their patterns! ALAS, I must kick and scream and.... wait honey no! don't threaten me with the sofa for teasing these kids!.........
5/5 as I am truly impressed boys..... Now excuse me while I go remind my wife why she married a gamer.
Ad Victorium, and God (or Ao if yer a superfan) Bless.
Each decision has a later effect. Each menber of your group has its own history, and complex personality. Very smart gameplay. Awesome grown up story that takes their player seriously.Gameplay decides whether the player is ultimately evil or good
