what a great game i played this game back in the day and i really enjoyed it and the enhanced one is just as good in my opinion with a few extra characters and a few extra quests is always welcome in my opinion but if you prefer the original then this comes with a code so you can claim the original also
The definitive version of the cult classic. Contains everything from the original version + new optional content and hundreds (thousands?) of bugfixes.
Sorry, also the current version (2.3.67.3) is bugged as hell. I've got crashes about every 10 minutes... It's a shame. You should really switch to the original version. Don't know why. Tried everything but nothing helps.
Otherwise it would be a nice game I guess.
Three stars for the EE editions. Five for the classics.
The EE edition completely butchers the design and layout of the beautiful original menu screens, inventories, spell books, status, maps, etc...the EE aspect ratio of the UI versus the game screen is completely out of wack. Everything is out of proportions. Their scaling is very low quality and does not probably scale with the interface. It does not look like the original. But it works on modern systems...
But so does the classic version of the game. It looks glorious on my 34 inch screen at the games original 4:3 aspect ratio. It only takes slight tweaking in your video card/Nvidia settings.
Both have their shares of bugs. Installing the more popular mods is recommended, and theres the positive with the EE version: some of the major mods are included with the game. BUT its extremely easy to install these on the classic version.
If you do not care how the games used to look and play, then EE is fine.
But if you are looking to experience BG2 how it was meant to be played, I highly recommend the classic versions, which sadly are not included separately from the EE edition.
I gave BG2 a try years and years ago but was somewhat overwhelmed. The EE gave me the chance to come back to the game. For anybody who's in a similar situation (or even completely new to the game): this is the version to go for. I recently tried to install Icewind Dale 2, but the technical problems kept me from playing it. The EE (as of 2019) works perfectly fine and saves you lot of modding work; there are no/not many bugs, and it brings the game to a new audience in the 21st century. The game itself stand the test of time, of course.
