i recently played through the game in dosbox win3.1
mainly because of the 640x480 "fullscreen" issues presented with the redux.
i tried numerous things in wine/proton on steam to fs_hack or similar to make the game actually fullscreen or windowed fullscreen etc. i gave up and played the original
the cutscenes are nicer with full colors but nothing else important was new or changed.
if you own the original (or own the redux and go download the original) either way you play is great.

90s FMV goodness.
I still have the original disc of this game, but it is impossible to play without a virtual machine set up. o I have been hoping that this one would eventually show up...after all, Harvester did. This was an instant purchase for me. I cannot wait to dive into this little nightmare again. I must say that I think it would be fun in a purely cosmetic way to have a choice of bugs to play. Silverfish, millipedes, centipedes or earwigs spring to mind. I suspect that the developers were great Franz Kafka admirers, as am I, but as Kafka steadfastly refused to specifically identify the "vermin" that his protagonist transforms into, any one of the above could be possible. I like the centipede...
This is some Baaad Mojo that you got there, mon.
And not only this Mojo is Bad, mon, but it's a whole Redux. Well, the original came out in 1996. Redux, unlike what I've believed at first, is not a modern remaster of a game. Well, it's a remaster, but it's from 2004, so it's old in it's own way. That one still helped with compitability with modern systems, seeing how early Windows games tend to be a roach to run, FMVs got improved. Albeit personally I had to launch the game two times in order to get FMVs working and even then there were minor glitches.
And well, it's an adventure game that mixes CGI and FMV, mostly due to developers trying to do everything with pre-rendered 3D before figuring out that they can just reproduce rooms in order to record some FMVs. In this one you will control cockroach. As a student in Russia, I indeed approve the way that cockroach moves. Rather realistic. At least believable, especially when everything is prerendered. Kinda like this twitchy movement, as it tilts according to surfrace, while waving antenna. Yea, pretty interesting. Especially once I tap it with my slippers.
And yea, you can't interact much, pretty much no recource management here, can only travel carefully and push. I think that game saves progress weirdly, where the state of things stays in some state, but I didn't get stuck. The story and exploration makes it super fancy, surprisingly. It opens up in a rather dark way but sweetens up slowly. Well, albeit with some unsettling moments. Atmospheric and tells a story. Puzzles felt down to earth. Albeit I still made use of video hints in game's folder, which sometimes had just right amount of hinting without revealing everything. Not ashamed of using them at times. I mean, who knew that you could ride a peanut butter with some Dank Mojo magic out of nowhere?
Sadly, I don't think that cat made it in any endings. Or at least not shown what happened to her. :c

Bad Mojo is a gem of mid-nineties FMV goodness. I was way too young to have played this when it first came out, and the 2004 redux release also passed me by. However I do have a massive softspot for somwhat hammy entertainment in the vain of X-factor and Goosebumps, and Bad Mojo tickles this softspot just right. So I picked it up here, no nostalgia attached.
The most appearently awesome part of this game are the graphics. The people at Pulse Entertainment just went all out in painting the grossest possible picture of a roach infested dive-bar/tenenment building you could wish for. Infact I'd recomment not playing this if you are a germophobe/entomophobe I'd recommend you to pass on this one. This really doesn't compare to the uncanny looking 3d rendered backrounds of games like Phantasmagoria. In contrast to the aforementioned the acting here is pure ham but that only adds to the charm.
The most amazing thing for me though was, how well the gameplay of Bad Mojo holds up. It's fairly rare to find a nineties adventure game that is easy to control and playable without referring to a walkthrough, it is actually quite impressive how the game strings you along with the minimal story-telling it has.
The game runs a little short maybe - I finished in about 4 hours - but Bad Mojo manages to keep you fully engaged over the duration of these hours, which is quite something considering that you are cockroach that can't do much more than crawl around and push things.
In summary: I'd recommend this if you like FMV adventures and nineties TV-series like Tales from the Crypt, or if you're just on the look-out for something wildly different for once.
Leaning more on "experience" rather than "game," Bad Mojo has a lot of unseemly sights to show you, and an odd control scheme for you to navigate these grody scenes. I rather like the story it tells and the way it tells it, but it's essentially a riff on "The Metamorphosis" written by the troubled Franz Kafka, right down to the ever copious father issues and number of fatal mistakes you can't predict coming. However, while not really grand in scope, it oozes (literally) plenty of ambitious 1990's charm that you don't see these days. It's not great by any means, however it is unique, and I can't think of any other games like it. Taken in on its own I'd say it's probably a 3/5 experience/game but I'll boost it to 4/5 just for the oddball premise of becoming a monstrous vermin and the disgusting visual storytelling. Try it out if you want something out of the ordinary, but with the recommendation of getting it on sale.
