Assassin’s Creed® is a game that redefined the action-adventure genre. With photo-realistic graphics, an advanced physics model, and a nearly fanatical attention to detail, this title was able to begin a new chapter in gaming history. However, the excellent technical aspects are only half of the reason why it became so popular; the other half is the story.
While you technically play the game as Desmond Miles, the main focus of the game takes place elsewhere. The year is 1191: Jerusalem, the middle of the Third Crusade. You are a member of a mysterious order of assassins where you have trained your whole life to do one thing and one thing only – to kill. The recently growing influence of the Order of the Knights Templar disturbs the delicate balance of power in the region and therefore directly threatens The Brotherhood. The clash of the two most powerful organizations in Jerusalem at the time has the most unexpected consequences and triggers devastating events that threaten the world itself, and you – Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad – are in the middle of all this.
Well-constructed story that will pleasantly surprise you many times along the way.
Impressive level of interaction with the environment – crowds react to what you do and act accordingly.
Open world gameplay lets you to decide how and when to achieve objectives, where to go, and gives you nearly complete freedom to get there.

This game started it all and brought a lot of innovation when it first came out. Climbing all the buildings the 3 massive cities have from the poor to the rich districts. The overall story of Assassin's Creed is quite original and mysterious at times. However the gameplay is quite repetitive and there is no sense of progress in the story inside the Animus, just about killing your 9 targets while doing the same activities trying to track them down. Combat system is good and flows well.
Overall, the game is fun at times but don't expect much to change after killing your target, you'll pretty much be doing the same thing after but in another city.
I quite enjoyed Assassin's Creed; the story and the setting of Altaïr is great, and the story of Desmond in present day is an interesting one, however it is a bit annoying that you are pulled out of the gameplay just to go to bed and overhear a conversation.
Yes it makes sense storyvise but it is an annoying happening some times.
The controls seems pretty good - especially when using a controller (I used an Xbox One controller connected to my PC), there are a general annoyance when jumping and climbing where it sometimes is like Altaïr decides to do something that you did not believe you were doing - this I have also seen in other Assassin's Creed games.
Generally it is a great game that I enjoyed both the gameplay, story, controls, graphics - and only had a few annoyances from.
But highly recommending this game!
When Assassin's Creed first came out, it broke new ground integrating unique parkour-style action with a beautiful rendition of the Near East during the Crusades.
In some ways, the first Assassin's Creed plays more like a proof-of-concept, with a lot of repetition in combat and tedious gameplay dynamics that were smoothed out later in the series.
For anyone interested in medieval Syria and Palestine, this game is a must-have. Despite occasional rough patches in the gameplay, the loving attention to detail in both architecture and historical atmosphere make Assassin's Creed shine.
The porting of this game to the PC is so abysmal, that is absolutely ruins any fun to be had. Not only does the interface remain identical to how it was on the console (which leads to a large number of problems, such as taking far too long to quit the game), but it crashes all the time. I was willing to deal with the terrible interface for a while, but when the game crashed just as I completed a long and frustrating mission, I gave up on this game.
If you want it, buy it on a console. But don't bother with this piece of crap port.
