Good game that is a cross between a bullet hell game and an action adventure game with light rpg elements.
The progression is very open-handed and you can access the entire map from the beginning. There is an expected order to traverse the map in terms of increasing difficulty, but you can go out of order in which case some map areas will feel brutally hard and others trivially easy.
The combat is good, although having most kinds of enemies shooting balls of energy feels a bit weird at times. Often, the screen will be is so busy that you'll have to forget dodging everything (especially with a limited number of dodges that are rather short in duration) even during boss battles leading to interesting split second tactical decisions between focusing on offense (concentrate on landing hits) and defense (concentrate on dodging), often quickly alternating between the two).
The platforming (dashing around from a top-down perspective while avoiding falling in lava/water/charms) will engage you though the controls are not quite crisp enough that you'll feel completely in control, especially with the diagonal dashes.
The are also purely defensive optional challenges where you'll have to perfectly dodge everything to get a reward and for the most part they are well done (maybe a little hardcore for casual gamers), though the rewards are not very enticing unfortunately (but the challenges are still a blast).
Beyond the character getting some permanent boosts as you progress (permanent defense boost, permanent hp boost, number of potion boosts, very few damage boosts), you'll also find better equipment and medals with enough variety that you'll get a slightly different gameplay feel depending on your picks.
In terms of story, its ok. Your character is a strong and silent god slayer. Done before, but at least its not cringe worthy.
So in short, it is a fun game that I recommend. It might not blow you away, but it should engage you for about 10-15 hours or so.
