I never played Justine or any of the custom stories back in the day. Felt like a good idea to get it now that it was greatly discounted. Also, I never knew that some short stories had been written about the amnesia universe. I guess I'll give them a read.
As for Amnesia the dark descent I think the studio has done better. Soma, Rebirth and Penumbra. I'm here, i guess, mostly to try a few custom stories out. Seems like some of them are better than the original game.
It will go down in posterity as the best horror game for the community.
Amazing story
Amazing mod development
Amazing design
Amazing everything
No other game will be better than this one.
It's with a heavy heart that I have to abandon this game. I would have given it 5 stars and a great review, had I been able to take down the drawbridge with a stone. I have seven rocks lying on the lower drawbridge. However, the bridge proves to be too high for my throwing ability to take it down. And I therefore can't continue in the game. Sniff sniff.
This game could start a whole new subgenre of Horror games: True Horror.
I'm an admitted Silent Hill fan boy. I love the series and all of it's horror, but it doesn't hold a candle to Amnesia. Amnesia is the kind of game that can and will keep you awake at night with all of the lights on in the house.
It's the little things that Amnesia does right. For instance, when your character starts whimpering in fear, it's very difficult to keep it together. When you hear that, your brain just screams at you to turn the game off and run and hide.
Five stars just isn't enough.
Right from the beginning I felt the tension but was not unnecessarily scared... at first. Then when I running from something I didn't even know what it is... man, my heart throbbed like hell. It felt a bit similar when I played Call of Cthulhu at the motel room. Anyway thats the way any horror game should operate.
