In 2010 Frictional Games terrified the world with the cult horror Amnesia: A Dark Descent. Now they bring you a new nightmare. The year is 1899
Wealthy industrialist Oswald Mandus awakes in his bed, wracked with fever and haunted by dreams of a dark and hellish engine. Tortured by visions of a disastrous expedition to Mexico, broken on the failing dreams of an industrial utopia, wracked with guilt and tropical disease, he wakes into a nightmare. The house is silent, the ground beneath him shaking at the will of some infernal machine: all he knows is that his children are in grave peril, and it is up to him to save them.

Good enough.
The game has alot of the atmosphere of the previous title, the music was good and the story was interesting. In fact, this game is so story heavy that it barely has any gameplay. The game has very few puzzles, if you could call them that, and when you get to them the game outright tells you what to do. Also it forces you stop and read the millions of notes that get added to your journal if you want to know more of the plot which I found to be hard to follow. The monsters are also fewer and easier to flee from. PS. I read here that many are upset over the inventory system, sanity system, the lantern, and the game's length. I have to say, it's rather silly to judge how good the game is based on it not having an inventory system, it's silly to judge the game based on it's length if it's as long or a little shorter than the all of the preceeding titles they've made, it's also silly to judge the game based on you not having to search for fuel to refill your lantern.

HP Lovecraft as a Game
If you love the work of HP Lovecraft than look no further for the personification of his work in digital format. The story is told with classic Lovecraft overtones, presented in beautiful and horrifying locations. This is a game to experience, as the use of sound and music to build the mood is on par with the best horror games on the market. It is a different game than Amnesia: A Dark Decent, but it is no Dear Esther either. It is a love letter to Lovecraft and H.G Wells equally. The tension is in the unseen and the true horror lies in uncovering the story, piece by piece.

A nice storytelling game
If not for the name of amnesia i'd say the game is good, it has nice storytelling and a good setting - so it's a darker version of dear esther, but contrary to the "brand" of amnesia the game is not scary at all.
