Special interest

It's really hard to review this piece. It's not very exciting, nor very challenging. Maybe it shouldn't even be called a game. It's more like an interactive painting with story. So the gameplay is just not really there. In some later episodes it can get more diverse, but most of the time you just walk around and turn everything dark. The focus here obviously wasn't on exciting gameplay-mechanics. That said, the art is really nicely made and the changing effect from lighter to darker art has also turned out very well. The game can get gory at times; you will definitely notice that American McGee worked here^^ (of course not only recognizable by blood) The music is subtle most of the time, but fits really well to the fairy-tale setting. So to whom can I recommend this now? People that like Grimm's fairy-tales will probably enjoy this new twist and alternate stories. Also fans of American McGee will like this game for the unique approach and art style.

Grimm Stinks

Alice fans are in for some disappointment. Almost everything about this game is abrasive. The mind numbing gameplay, the cringe worthy script, the grating voice acting. Really not wild about the modernizing of the fairy tale characters in Grimm. (Imagine playing through American McGee's Alice except now she's a valley girl and they've added some much needed four letter words. Kill me now.) Grimm packs in a slew of low brow adult humor for you as well. A shame all the jokes are bad and always out of place, which is how you'll feel every time you play this game. Grimm the dwarf has a voice like nails on a chalkboard, which is perfect for him but it makes for an annoying experience since he narrates the whole game. He even jabbers on as you play, telling you to "Make it stinky!" and "Butt slam it!" over and over. Seriously? You have ONE move! I know what to do! Well two moves if you count him constantly peeing. Not sure who decided a lack of bladder control would make for a cool character. Maybe they could patch this game to give Grimm a cool diaper... except then you'd only have the one move again and in a game this shallow I'll take all the depth I can get.

Impulse Buy

My mistake, bought on impulse. If you're into toilet humor with little challenge, this is your game. I really tried to give it a fair shot, gave it two stars for the odd chuckle, but it very quickly got old.

A nice experience

I love the art style and the dark nature of this series, but there is not really much of a game to it. Every level boils down to having to "paint" the world dark in as little time as possible. Although it does get challenging in later episodes, with the introduction of tougher "enemies" that has to be converted and platforming section, if you are looking for a hardcore game, this game isin't for you. That said, the gameplay is rewarding in that you get to impact the world and it's always fun to see what gruesomeness you get to cause. So in conclusion, nice art style and wonderful sense of humor, with simple but satisfying gameplay.

American McGee's Katamari Damacy

The episodic Grimm series is like a bunch of half hour-sized (or so), dark fairy tale-themed Katamari levels. Not as direct of a clone as The Wonderful End of the World, but the general idea and structure remains similar. They can get repetitive when you play the episodes in succession (the original release structure was perfect for avoiding that) and the humor doesn't always hit, but I enjoyed playing through them back when they came out and look forward to being able to give them another go.
