Great idea ok implementation...
The trailer is short and gives a good idea of what to expect. If you additionally look at the first minute or two of a playthrough there will be nothing surprising in the rest of the game. Which is fine, it is supposed to be relaxing and low key and it is. A game about birdwatching is a great idea but I suspect it is more complex than most games to implement in a minimally decent way. So this one just being minimally decent in my opinion is not as harsh of criticism as it might seem. The way the birds move around is not overly repetitive and while there are a few graphical glitches they don't distract from the game in my opinion. Most of the issues I have with the game are style issues that you can tell from the trailer and first minute or two of gameplay if you won't like them. There weren't really any wow moments in the game in my opinion, although the transition between days was really nicely done and I also appreciate the scenic views where you can sit for a bit and the camera zooms out to give a wider view of the island. The game is a good length for what it is. Particularly if you remember that the wildlife guide has lists of what birds you can find where and what they look like, so you don't need to wander the whole island looking for the last few birds like I did for a bit. You can go back after the credits roll to find any last birds you missed although there seem to be a couple of bugs in this part (two people sometimes sit at the same spot and overlap and it seemed at first like there was supposed to be an additional end sequence if you talk with your grandparents but after finding all the birds they only had regular conversation). If you like this one and are up for a challenge, try The Witness. In addition to the main puzzles you can optionally find patterns in the scenery when you are in just the right place (the trailer doesn't show that part). For me it has a wow factor that this one lacks (only partly related to the challenge I think).
