Buy It For the Story!

I had to buy it on a key seller shop because Steam had to remove it from the store. I got it for cheap and was happy. The STORY is one of the best I ever played but only one thing made me ragequit and its the terrible endless spawns. The game has many setpeaces where enemies spawn on comand but leaving that type of zone will push you to the limmits cause theres no time to do a pause and reload - its a run from light to light source where all ghosts (?) despawn and when leaving respawn. They push / hunt you so badly that exploration isnt going to be nice espcially circa half way through the game when everything (story) hunts him...

Unique masterpiece!

Alan Wake is a thriller and survival horror, in quality on the same level as Resident Evil 4 (i.e., best of the best), but in content completely different. In my opinion, Alan Wake is one of the best games of all time! The "light/darkness" gameplay is totally unique, very innovative and revolutionary. Great story and atmosphere, very suspenseful from beginning to the end. From the makers of Max Payne 1 & 2, which also were fantastic games. It's one of the very best games you can find anywhere, so don't hesitate to check it out. My only complain is that the developers were so stupid to use licensed music, which means this game has an expiration date (for people who don't own it). For 1 1/2 years Alan Wake was everywhere out of sale for this reason, now it's back. Funny thing is that nothing would be missing if this music would be taken out (it's only in the radios and credits).

Masterpiece of Storytelling

Honestly, I'm not into Horror/Survival Games but biting through this one was well worth it. Combat is not the most enjoyable (or I just suck - I often suck) but story and athmosphere are one of a kind and the game is heavily focused on the latter. The soundtrack is also great and the chapter-ending-tracks are extremely well picked. Also there are a lot of Horro-Movie/Book references to enjoy if you're into the genre! If you're more a story-related-person get this game! You'll be rewarded. I'm a motion-sicky and some parts of the game as well as camera controls generally can be VERY exhausting. I had to play it in bits and often take a pause or switch with a friend in the later parts especially but it's possible to finish it. (I own the game on Steam and played with a controller. Can't say about how good the GOG version works.)

One of the greats

A classic on part with the Max Payne series. The atmospheric small town setting pays homage to various works in Americana.

Good but not replayable.

I had a pretty good time with it. Story was pretty good. Gameplay was a bit easy, but had it's frustrting moments. Glad I played it. But I probably won't ever return to it.
