An engaging, quick and relaxing time. The games loosely hung together story expects more from the player then it delivers, but if you’re willing to accept it for what it is (a very light story) with a decent sized serving of hyper-relaxed exploring....then you'll be good.
I didn’t have any bug/glitch issues with the small exception that my Xbox Series S controller does not work at all with it, while my Xbox One & 8BitDo Pro2 both work perfectly.
Overall I really enjoyed this game, and intend to play it again in the not-so-distant future. I grabbed it for something like 80% off and can hearty recommend it at that price point. I’d even go so far as to say that I’d be willing to pay full price for it, but I’m not sure the average gamer would be quite so happy with the purchase.
Just played through this game a couple days ago and I can say that its really cool! The game takes you through the adventure and pilgrimage of a girl named Auk who is a "shifter", meaning she can transform into a bird.
The graphics are lovely, making use of a low-poly style that is very pleasing to the eye. It is not hard on my computer at all, and I get very smooth fps throughout the entire game. I haven't had any issues with lag spikes or drops in performance. The colours are bright and saturated, and work very well with each other.
I love the ambiance of the game. The shaders and ambient light is very pleasing to the eye and the game doesn't have any issues with being too dark or too bright. There is lots of vegetation and creatures sprinkled throughout the islands and temples that give the game life.
The soundtrack is lovely as well. The music changes slightly between different areas of the map and gets a little faster/more exciting when in flight mode. Makes the game feel adventurous without being too overarching on the gameplay.
The gameplay itself is very simple. You travel between the islands by flying, and find keys to enter the temples. The temples have some puzzles that are easy to understand and require little concentration. Makes the game very enjoyable and relaxing. As someone who's played many games that require serious brainpower and time to complete, this game gives a great breath of fresh air from the grind other games require. It is fairly short if you stick to the main storyline (about two to three hours), but there is lots of lore and little side stories that you can spend time exploring if you wish.
If you're looking for a game to dedicate the rest of your life to, this isn't it. The short playtime and simple story isn't going to consume your life, but its great if you want a nice break from the grind.
Overall, a great game to spend your afternoon with and relax. Little simple on the gameplay, but enjoyable nonetheless. Great game!
Music 4 I really liked the music (where is the downloadable OST. I had to but the Steam version for this)
Sound 3 its ok. Nothing stellar but quite functional.
Visuals 4. I like this type of art style and it goes well with the music but there is clipping and a few anomalies
HUD 3. There really isn't much of one for controls.
Gameplay 2. Lordy, the mouse sensitivy and camera angles bothered me to no end. I was always fighting them. Combine this with WASD and jumping and issues really start but the flying I found goawful. I had the game white out crash a few times. You can use a gamepad with joytokey but I haven't mapped out using analog sticks instrad of mouse. It might have helped. Game could benefit with being gamepad friendly.
Story. 3. I didn't get far into this before crashing or being stuck because of flying. I'll give it another go on a more powerful computer. The old one had long loading times.
A modern platformer that does not recognize on its own a normal xBox controller is just not worth it. Some keys the game recognizes, some not, and a remapping of the keys or manual set-up is not available in the game option.
Under these circumstances absolutely not worth it!
AER, I really like this game, it's one of those "always on sale" game that after playing it I thought to myself "Yeah, I wouldn't have mind buying the full price to this". The story is a bit cliché, but I still liked it. The flying part might be the best flying controls I saw in a game, it feels really smooth, precise.
The only part that isn't very good imo is the platforming in human form, the movements are a bit too rigid for my taste.
9/10
