Single DOSbox install for all DOS games.

As it is now, every DOS game makes its own install of DOSbox, so there end up being a lot of redundant copies of it if you have multiple DOS games from GOG. Shouldn't it be possible to have the installer check if there's already a copy of DOSbox installed, and set the game up to use the existing one instead?

And on top of that, allow the use of an already installed version of DOSBox, like it is on Linux. That said, there might be incompatibilities, so there should be a choice. The best way would be to have the installer provide multiple installation paths, a) per-game-version of DOSBox (as it is now), b) one single installation of a GOG version of DOSBox, and c) use of the system DOSBox already present (with the responsibility of the user to not mess up, like uninstalling that version etc.) Additionally there then must be a DOSBox configurator, allowing later adjustments to this choice...

I agree that this should be a setting under the advanced section of the installer. Which cogadh mentioned, it already is? So no vote.

Why not have all the DOSbox versions together so only one version of each that is needed is installed

Then you run into problems with some games that require a specific version of DOSBox; there are several that only work with 0.73. Considering the vast majority of GOG's customers don't even know what DOSBox is, it is better for them to simply leave it as an option for their advanced users (IMO, of course).

The installer does do that, just not by default. You have to go into the installer options and tell it to use the already installed copy of DOSBox and then it won't install its own.
