To our loyal fans:

A number of you have asked questions about the availability of Night Dive Studios titles on various portals, GOG in particular. As a general matter of policy our preference would be to have all of our games available on all platforms. This would not only offer the best user experience but would make good business sense. It would help us to reach the widest audience.

With that said, it would be fair to ask why all of our titles aren’t on every platform. A simple question with a somewhat complex answer:

1) The single largest factor to bear in mind is that we can only offer our titles; it is up to the platform owner to accept that offer. Sometimes a portal doesn’t feel that there is a good fit for their user base. Our latest title, Spirits of Xanadu by way of example, is not actually a classic game, but is in the classic game style. It has had good reviews and over 93% positive user response on Steam, but not every portal was willing to accept the game. As a general rule of thumb the first place to ask for a game to be made available would on the portal’s forums.

2) Pricing is another factor. We have identical pricing for all our games across all platforms. (This doesn’t mean that we don’t put our games on sale or include them in bundles. This only refers to regular pricing.) This is not only a business decision for us, we think that it is only fair. You, as consumers, should be free to choose where to buy without worrying if you are paying a higher price because of your preference. The consequence of this is that if we have an agreement to place a game on one platform for X price and another platform owner says that they will only accept the game if we cut the price to Y, we just can’t do that. It would be an unfair situation.

3) Technology does impose some constraints. We are working with GOG as part of their GOG Galaxy Beta program, but at the time that The Original Strife: Veteran Edition was being released, only Valve’s Steamworks offered us the tools needed.

If you think about our company’s history, we have premiered many of our titles (System Shock II, I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, Bad Mojo Redux) on GOG. We continue to have a very positive relationship and support GOG’s principles. With the addition of the Galaxy platform, we look forward to doing even more.

I realize that this is a long answer to a simple question, but we wanted provide a complete and candid answer.

Thanks for all your support.
