Mods and apps as downloadable content
I would welcome this feature.
Many of the games on GOG require mods to be fully functional/enjoyable. These mods should be preserved by GOG and made as easy to install (via Galaxy possibly) as Steam workshop.
There are many good reasons for gog to provide mod downloads in some form. Modding is a big part of PC gaming and particularly crucial when playing old games. Having some available in gog should help with older mods that might stop being available somewhere else.
That said, personally, I mostly want steamworks to stop being an excuse for some developers to release only through steam.
Absolutely, especially if something could be worked out with nexus mods.
a GOG mod manager integrated with the GOG Downloader or GOG Galaxy would work out very well, similar to the steam workshop, but hopefully with better functionality. You could also look to the Skyrim/Fallout Nexus websites for ideas, this would be a great idea though.
An easy mod install for games! Like Steam workshop but go beyond that.
GOG team, 1)make the option for mods for games 2) then let the comunity post the names for the mods that they want 3) check if the mods are actualy good 4) post the mods ... RESULT = GOG comunity is happy and will make he site more popular and You (GOG team) get more money simple as that
Thanks for your time on at least reading this :)
P.S. I heard that there was a new mod for the original deus ex that includes about 10 hour EXTRA gamplay with story... so yeah.
Have a sister site called GOM "Good ol' Mods". It could host mods, popular custom content, and let people put on custom made maps like for the HOMM series. And to make it a bit more legit, have it to where only mods appear for the games that you have bought on GOG.
Fan patches and most essencial mods could be hosted by GoG and that would be sweet!
Only if they are Official content.
Mods are prevalent in the forums. This is a problem due to possible abuses of it. Criminals can spread viruses by linking contaminated mods in the forum. Currently any criminal can use your forums to spread them to thousands of PCs and won't be discovered. That's why files like mods should be distributed by a trusted source and the ones who earn their living with the games.
some kind of obvious mod spotlight would be nice, I think specially for new owners of a game. But in the downloadable goodies section and hosted on gog.com? I dont know if they will do that. But the idea is good.
I also agree that having all mods for all games be hosted here is a bit unrealistic. I did however vote for it just to show my affiliation for GOG having as much mod support as possible. (Like them creating a sticky in each game forum and populating it with some highly reccomended mods on release or linking to dedicated mod sites for said games). Maybe partnering with some major modDB sites where they co-advertise.
I'm pretty sure this is never gonna happen, but it'd please me, so it just should happen, no matter the costs.
Why not linking directly to "Game Mods" section in the game page, or list popular mods with links to them and fun-made patches! I was also thinking that having most popular mods listed with the game will give huge bonus to the content while not bringing nearly anything to the game page. Games such as Fallout 2 with an awesome mod: Restoration Mod need to have it highlighted, I consider this mod as a must-have for F2 gameplay, it's just crime not to have it installed playing F2.
I just want them on my library :)
For this we have the GOGWiki and the forums (Most games have a nice sticky). Also, the all time favourite, "legal reasons".
At the very least some direction to where to can find mods for that game and how to install them.
I think including mods would be asking too much. What mods should be included? All of them? A selection? If it's the former that would be too much load for gog, if it's the later, who decides which ones are the good ones? I think that a mod by the community is enough. If anything, a popularity list of mods.
