Another thing to consider is that GOG should always release the original version of the game as well (not cut "unneeded" stuff out). The original Fallout, for example, came with both the DOS and Windows version in one package. The GOG release has removed the DOS executables, which is a shame, as with them the game could be emulated on more systems.

In reply to Mnemon. Great idea! :-D However I believe that it should be limited to must-have or awesome patches and mods. It's always a nightmare for anyone trying or returning to a beloved game and being unsure of what source ports and what mods to download. Gog could simplify that. Something that I believe would create far greater interest in older games.

That's what I end up doing anyway so might as well include it. Install the game, grab the data files and use a port. eduke is what I used to play Duke3D again. Good times :-)

Well, of course they need to contact the development teams first. But yes, including mods would also be awesome. Or for games with a level editor, some contests for GOGers to create levels and include them then as optional download. Countless possibilities to make new wishes... :-)

I'd love to see something much bigger, really - GoG to host unofficial patches (mods) and the like. With some of the recent changes to free hosting sites quite a lot of useful, not illegal, downloads were affected, too. Of course - the problem is how to do that legally (licenses of games like these ...) and fairly (limiting openly available software only to people that bought the game on GoG? Hm.) more than likely.
