Examples: Steam Achievements, GameCenter Achievements etc.
Make the API opensource (BSD-like license) to foster its proliferation.

This is a great idea. And it would also benefit steam games like Alpha Protocol and Fallout 3 because they don't have Achievements even if the consoles had them. Many times i hate Achievements (Assetto Corsa is a prime example, over 500 achievements, wth...) but there are games where it is benificial. So you got my vote.

This is the way it should work. It's sad that so many games build things specifically for certain storefronts and tie their hands. Lock-in is bad for consumers and anti-GOG to boot. A vote to you sir. For the sake of adoption though, the API shouldn't diverge too much from Steam's implementation. At the same time, if it's TOO close, GOG will get sued. Since Oracle v. Google, API's are now somehow copy-writable. I support an open API for devs either way, just don't get burned doing it. If this is done, reach out to other storefronts and the community for help in implementing. If it's open, don't become a benevolent dictator of an 'open' API, no GOG-only feature-support or explicit Galaxy-VR support etc. Optional always.
