dnovraD So you know what I'm tired of? LLMs and generative systems being used as an excuse to stifle creativity. As such, I'd like to have a disclosure/seal of doom stamped onto games of which use this absolutely turgid night soil.
Developers would be asked at (great potential penalty, up to removal) to be honest about the matter and to what extent. This would apply retroactively, indefinitely, and to any future updates a title would receive.

As I observed the development of game creation - through oversimplified - first there where:
* Generative models: just the applying of statistics, application of little tools and helper to facilitate development and world creation ... all build by own efforts.
Later on there where:
* Self-trained or self-training models - AI engines trimmed by own art or prior creations for development and while runtime these kind where especially useful for reactions of enemies and characters in-game .. reviews didn't mention but reactions by the audience where great.
And nowadays we have public attention of this:
* Publicly variable AI solutions with data that re a mishmash of terabytes of mediocre data and creations from wich a developer now can source.
I suggest the following: If the developer used AI tools along with data sets he didn't created by himself but where made up by publicly available stuff in any kind (or say not created through self-effort) that game must be tagged as it possibly just echoes the median of all (mediocre) creations that are publicly available (in the net?). Or in other words: the assets then have not it's source within the development team but are just a curated pick out of a remix of others work of art and appreciation of art.
Most often I am interested in the game engine used. Now I am also interested in the AI Models and data sets used (at least if such solutions where used).
Calamity.Moth GOG should absolutely do this. Game development is an art and we should be aware of AI generated content in our games.
dd31879 I have seen 'AI disclosures' on Steam pages. So I think this should be a thing.
Besides that.. I have tried out AI myself in a lot of ways.. answering questions.. image generation.. helping solve problems.. making work easier.. lots of stuff.
I think it *can* be useful, but the way the market is currently it needs a disclosure. AI is not developed enough that it is without its own flaws. Depending on how it was trained it will totally plagiarize someones art and other content and never tell you because it doesn't know any better. A human does know better.
So if you use AI, as an example, to create art for your game..
and that AI was trained on millions of images from a variety of sources (some of which were copyrighted), then the AI is using things that are not authorized by the original creators.
Its just my observation. Things like that have already been seen to happen. So AI disclosures need to be a thing.
Jambon_Emmental +1. GOG should be helping consumers to make informed decisions about their purchases. Tbh, it's not great that they haven't implemented something like this already and remaining silent on the issue is not a good look imho.

alwbsok Nah, sorry, but this isn't GoG's fight.DRM is (usually) a removable feature added on the surface for the purpose of distribution, and very easy to surgically remove. On the other hand, AI usage is very much baked into the development. Forcing developers to disclose this is to reveal something baked into their development process, something that applies to all platforms. Developers would be forced to choose whether to release on GoG and reveal something deeply controversial about their creative process that could sour their profits on all platforms, or just release on Steam/Epic/Consoles/etc.
Basically, GoG's position is not strong enough to strong-arm developers into disclosing this. Steam *might* be a powerful enough player to do this, but even then, they might not want to drive any more publishers to Epic.
If we want this kind of disclosure, all we can really do is ask companies (or get GoG to ask on our behalf). Or, you could ask your government to mandate this kind of disclosure... I live in Australia, and my government is just crazy enough to attempt legislation like that. :)
brancyxy Blindly hunting anything AI generated is just as harmful as using it to create slop. The point is to ridicule the companies using it to mass generate shit, not witch hunt a new tech.

wruslan714 that would be good to know, i know the rapid development of this technology is inevitable but if im properly informed i know this will help me with any future purchases. i think there will come a time in the near future where people will pay extra for the human touch, ai will be so rampant as you can see now and we are only in the early stages, it makes me appreciate the game more. at least i do it is more nostalgic for me.

Developers who think using GenAI is a good thing can state proudly how it helps them, those who don't won't be affected. Only cause for someone to be against this would be of they want to hide the facts or lie, and if they get caught be able to get away with it claiming they never had to disclose.
shardator GOG is Good Old Games. We are here because we are a community that likes older stuff. Including older, more honest ways of work. Like... Not using AI to generate stolen artwork, for example.
ishkerayot I would also like to add this to my wishlist. With EPIC shrugging and saying AI is just inevitable, it would be my hope that GOG also takes the stand that good games do not need AI and make it evident when it has been used. The majority of the GOG library is proof that AI is not necessary to have a good game. Make the developers that use it like a crutch have to disclose it so we are informed.
Dawnsinger Needs much more detail than a stamp could possibly convey. I don't auto-disapprove of content just because AI was involved to some degree. The four categories proposed by mefistoteles would be a good starting point, but it still needs more detail on the level and purpose. A few simple points just don't cut it for me, so a system like that would be essentially useless to me. I'm all for empowering users, and this is why I will upvote this, but I disagree with most everything except the title.
Ricetlin I agree. Its not about if AI used in games is harmful or not. It is about letting the customer make an informed purchase and product transparency. The customer should be able to know if AI was used in the games development before they make their purchase.
shovas Yes. At the very least, there should be a community tagging system to tag games using AI. Might need multiple AI tags: AI Models, AI Music, AI Assets, AI SoundFX, etc.

Helixien Whether or not people like AI, disclosure doesn't hurt. If a studio wants to use AI, it should stand behind that decision.
QWEEDDYZ AI is a great thing. But should be NOT in PAID PRODUCTS as something normal. It is abnormal and must be at least noted on store page.
Issue is, that devs often use AI to generate NEWER content for UPDATES to make it *updates*. Although that moatly for donat-subs method of payware, that also sometimes happen for indie games sold as normal storefront product.
Storefront page must cover feature updates as well, and somehow GOG to supervise this.
Must be noted, that all AAA remasters also use AI upscaled contents. This at least included initially.
mefistotelis I would prefer to have this specified in detail. At the very least, 4 parts: "Contains machine generated visuals", "Contains machine generated audio", "Contains machine generated code", "Used machine generation during development".

As a consumer, I have a right to know what I'm purchasing. Buying a game that's made with Generative AI completely unbeknownst to me is deceptive marketing.
TimberWoodLumber Im strictly against THIS, let developers decide what they want to disclose. Let be real, before this while AI marketing **** a lot of companies used generative programs.
Also its not about making terrible AI art, it can be about pre- generating decent AI art and then using programs to hand polish it. Or to sit and handpick 1 good thing out of 50 mediocre generated by AI.
I generated extremely beatiful art using AI and im a developer but it was a ton of work because it was 1 out of 100 and required some manual post processing.

Time4Tea Upvoted. I also have no interest in games (or books, movies, music) that feature significant amounts of AI-generated content. Art is a reflection of humanity, and should be made by humans for other humans to enjoy. The concept of 'AI-generated art' is inherently fraudulent.

dnovraD What do you mean applying it retroactively is unreasonable and impossible? Take a census of the releases before 202X, and count backwards from there. If people with punchcards could count millions, GOG with modern software can count 5800 games and hold each accountable.

IndieFlyer I do not support this users offense to AI, but I agree with them that the user has the right to know so they can make an educated decision. Steam as the industry leader already requires this of devs on their platform.
Though applying this retroactively is both unreasonable and impossible.
