GOM (like GOG but for movies), focus on "rare" movies: old movies, anime, independent cinema, etc.
Personally love it, but the logistic nightmares around this are boggling.
gof (good old films, gog but for movies) and got (good old tunes, gog but for music), then we have a galaxy client for these...
I'd pay for this stuff, but alas, movie rights are tougher.
I totally endorse this.
GOM sounds like a fantastic idea for a platform focused on rare and unique films, including old movies, anime, and independent cinema. A service like this could offer a valuable resource for cinephiles and enthusiasts looking for hard-to-find or niche content. If you’re developing or promoting this platform, highlighting its unique catalog and emphasizing its focus on rare and diverse films could attract a dedicated audience
Great, but I fear expanding their scope could be harmful for GOG, which is already on a huge task dealing with games
As someone just now getting into 90s anime and having issues finding them, id love some of that in my life. i really wanted to watch initial D the other day, for the first time, and found out it keeps getting passed around between Hulu and Crunchroll. i was so disappointed, but i luckily settled on cowboy bebop.
Why is the Community Wishlist dominated by assholes? If you want to post something constructive, that would enrich this site, please go ahead. No one wants to hear about your bitcoin offers or any other snake oil you're peddling.
Please add this service. Old, obscure films that might get lost need to be for sale. Also you could develop an AI filter that actually makes them look/feel like golden era quality so that everyone will actually start watching films from the early 20th century again, but the original transfer should always be bundled in the download.
just pirate them tf
It would be GOF then, since movie is an american term.
Good Old Films
With all dub options. I can sometimes find a film but I can't get the dubs that I've heard before in person. GOM would be a treasure trove and like the GOG store I'd happily support this effort financially.
There are many movies shown at international film festivals that are lost forever after their few showings. They are virtually impossible to get unless you are friends with the director; even at the festival it may not be sold on disc or digitally. If GOG could help these films continue to be accessible then I would be pleased about it.
Yes please, totally support.
Yes! Oh my god there is some old anime movies I have seen the trailer for, and no movie store could order a disc of it as none was avaible for my country, and no one had a disc of it on Amazon or anything. I tried to illegally watch it online, no one had a copy of one of the movies and the other one, I got less than halfway into it and then it would freeze and not progress any further.
I would love it if we also could be either buy or get it included different original dubs with the various cartoons.
An example i am a dane and i grew up watching various cartoons and such like Wind in the willows, the various movies made by Karel Zeman, Lucky Luke and various Russian cartoons.
The where all dubbed in danish.
Unfortunately that dub is hard as hell if not impossible to find and most of the time it will be quite distorted with noise, because it is ripped from old OLD VHS tapes.
So it would be nice if i could also by the original danish dub that has been cleaned up and such.
So if GOC was ever launched i would be willing to pay extra for a series to either get danish subtitles and/or the original danish dub along side the original one.
It would allow me to rewatch my childhood.
I would call it GOC for Cinema or something like that. The suggested acronym just makes me remember that foot-ish media player.
It would be then GOF.
The situation on movie preservation is screwed up. Let me clarify, the Internet and collectors do preserve all the game, but nobody cares about movies; GOG has a tendency to delete and remove movie products, including rare ones (to be honest, mostly not very high quality). In the end we have hundreds of forever lost movies, nowhere to be found, movies that were on GOG.
I wish I could buy movies on GoG.
The movies catalog is anemic and they pulled off a huge portion recently. I'd be satisfied if they brought more titles to have a truly rich catalog. Indenpendent cinema is nice. Count me in, not just for cinema, but for other media aswell like it's proposed in the wish title.
It would be great if GOG would collaborate with The Criterion Collection for this digital service.
Would be my primary source of movies if it was real.
This is a good idea but I think this would be better. Since everyone on the wishlist is suggesting to add Shows and Movies. Why not call it GOE (Good Ole Entertainment).
I love the idea for how bizarre it is. Like think about it, buying movies like Bir Zamanlar Anadolu'da or Det sjunde inseglet on GOG. But at the end of the day it's kinda pointless? There's Netflix, Criterion Channel (sadly not in my country), Mubi and you can even watch some movies on Youtube. "Good Old Movies" would however be so hilarious to even think about. But if there would be some actually good movies, I'm down with that idea.
I wonder what proportion of public domain movies are actually available online; let alone in optimal quality with multiple-language subtitles. Then again, maybe that's more Archive.org's specialization.
Especially Cult Classics, things that are relevant to old school gamers and hackers like us.
Get ass kicking computer movies like Sneakers, Hackers, Wargames, Antitrust, The Net, The Matrix, Brainstorm, Brainscan, stuff like that..... Weird, bitchin' Cyberpunk flix.

I agree with Ktilla, there are fine companies doing that job already. However, if GOM could lower the price for those films digitally - that would be great!
check this Brazilian website - makingoff - google it. the best place to check great films, along, of course, the very website for the Criterion collection.
GOG Movies could use some content, anime series would be a good fit for gamers (Overlord and Danmachi for example).
I would love to *own* some Anime series, I'm not a fan of buying subscriptions to streaming services and DVD boxes take room and might be hard to get.
Nah we got the Criterion collection and FlimStruck for that
Have to remember, though, that GOG is no longer Good Old Games. Ever since their re-launch when they started releasing new games and indie games they dropped the original acronym meaning, and just took on GOG as their name (either pronouced as gog (as in goggles) or as gee-o-gee). It no longer stands for Good Old Games.
Say 'NO' to anime!
GOG ought ALSO pickup ALL SORTS of NON main-stream AND hard to get movies (including TV movies) and TV-series' .
I mean , I am not against that GOG picks up *everything* including mainstream , but I think that the real need here is *ALL* sorts of hard to get movies and TV-series' *including* what some would otherwise consider mainstream.
Very good idea. As a sort of a special category of this project.
I definately see this working! Especially for Eastern European countries and without region lock like in Steam.
i say no to anime
NO, fuck this idea..
Yep, I'd prefer it too if the focus was on obscure, unkown, forgotten, indie, alternative, weird animated, etc... movies. Maybe throw in a bunch of shorts instead of only feature length.
*idea
This sounds like a great idee. But how about just include this feature together with other features in GOG Galaxy, instead of creating another new market.
i forot to say, they have to have original audio with subtitles too
as long as it has "Anime/Asian Cinema(mainstream or non mainstream) i would be happy to pay.
Love this idea :D
Very good idea! I'd like this!
Well I think the good idea is to go after the misfits that are quality but get looked over by most studios right now. Case in point, Twilight Time got the rights to print "Fright Night".
voted :D
GOM: good old movies, and you want the movies on the GOG game shelf i assume ?
GOM should be a movie site with a nice retro inetrface old closet shelves and old movie reels
Idea sounds good, problem is the royalties of the newer titles i saw in the list like startrek, thats gonna be tough and might not be possible.
However old stuff like attack of the ....
20 feet woman. snakes, godzilla..... and all that ancient stuff would be fun.
Send emails to them directly, they will listen to mass emails more quickly. www.gog.com/support/contact
Yes please, keep GoG for games! Add what ever you like next: music, movies, books, etc to it's own platform!
