A_Khan Regarding release dates, remember that Egosoft didn't release any of their games on GOG until Sep-Nov 2015 (I do not recall the exact release date, but could see that the last wishlist comments for these games end in September and oldest posts in the GOG X Series forum date to early November 2015), while X Rebirth, then the newest game in the series, was released in 2013. The only new release Egosoft has made, as of this writing, since they started selling through GOG is the Home of Light DLC for XR, which was released on GOG on day one (25 Feb 2016).
Furthermore, Egosoft devs have publicly made disdainful comments about DRM, to the effect that they don't like it or believe in it and only bothered (even with basic things like a CD-check - for which Egosoft themselves even published cracks for registered owners through their website) at the insistence of their publishers / distribution partners.
In conclusion, though I have not seen any official announcement yet, I think it likely Egosoft will release X4 on GOG at the same time as other platforms.
Regarding the state of XR at initial release, and at GOG release, Egosoft and the X games have a long history of releasing buggy games and then providing dedicated, long-term post-launch support for their products and slowly but surely fixing all the bugs, even if it takes years to squash them all. Make of that what you will.
vertex Oh yeah. Tho if they decide to do the "laaate GOG release" as they did with X-Rebirth, I'll wait for it to be on dirt cheap sale here. If they want full price from me, they just have to release on GOG at the official release date - not a year later. I don't pay full initial release price for old games. Especially not if the publisher tried to scam me at first ;-)
Bonus: when I handled it like this with X-Rebirth, it was aaalmost in a playable state at the time I finally got it here. Just needed like... a ton of modifications to qualify as "enjoyable", which were available by then too.
Anyhow: get this on GOG! \o/
