Witcher 3 - remove DRM
Please do not lock content behind a micro DRM . I do us galaxy but still locking things behind a launcher login especially content that is for an offline single player experience . I don't mind red launcher being a thing to make cross compatibility a thing but the my rewards stuff (outside of the online gwent stuff) should be a part of an offline patch or just ya know . part of the game for owning it .
I already use galaxy . Not cause of the rewards but cause it's convenient . Stop locking content behind DRM ! .
Please generate an offline installer for these Galaxy Rewards.
You two should read. Everything you need to know about this game being partially DRMed is here. And there's no such thing as partially DRM free, so this game is DRMed whether or not you care about the DRMed cosmetics and stuff. It's a slippery slope you're telling GOG is ok to go down or “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” – attributed to Edmund Burke
Unless it is some cosmetic items. Again, you don't need them. I never missed anything with the offline installer.
Online achievements is not DRM. The keyword being 'online'. You can play this game without them as I have using the offline installers.
FFS, Witcher 3 does not have DRM. If anything, that micro-DLC has DRM, but that's a stretch. I understand the desire to be able to install a game without Galaxy as a way of future proofing, but for as long as GOG exists, you can run the game from Galaxy and simply copy the required files. Yes, it would be nice to have them as separate downloads, but this is so tiny I can understand they may want to use it as an incentive to use for Galaxy. I understand the petition for petitioning to make them available separately, but you are all just creating cringeworthy drama.
GOG and CDPR logic, make DRM Free platform and find your niche, then f-ing around with your own games by DRM-ing them ...
Poor trolling. All GOG games have to be downloaded ONLINE, but they're, mostly, not locked behind GALAXY. In any case, that's not content, that's an option, as you said and not all multiplayer is online. I do, however, dislike the removal of LAN play which can be used online or off WITHOUT Galaxy.
>If parts of the game are locked behind an online connection, it's DRM, simple as that.
So then we should be consistent and remove from store all singleplayer story based games that have multiplayer options, right?
If a Steam game was DRM free and they added extras that require Steam, whether you like the extras or not, are those extras DRM? Yes. Is the game fully, 100%, with all extras, DRM free, anymore? No. Now replace the word Steam with Galaxy. Worse, GOG claims to be a DRM free store, Steam doesn't. Who's more honest?
I don't see how any of this is DRM
"Rewards for owning the game but needing galaxy is not drm"
Lol, the definition of DRM.
Rewards for owning the game but needing galaxy is not drm bozo, It's just some in-game rewards you need to be online for, not an integral part of the game.
It was added in the big "update" in Dec. Look five posts down from yours. Learn to read and think to avoid making yourself look foolish, and childish is never a good look.
Oh ffs
Dude, there's no DRM in this game. Source: I've had it for six years.
This is unacceptable!
lol
If you have no idea WHAT DRM is, you should just shut up.
Getting extras when using the Galaxy client is a reward and has nothing to do with DRM and the game.
Make it Free again !!!
"Please make "My Rewards" for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 available via offline installers. Don't apply Micro-DRM to your own games! What will happen when you inevitably shut down this authentication service?"
Well, exactly the same that happened to Dragon Age Origins - the content won't be available anymore on new installs.
DRM is unacceptable.
GOG is going to hell in a handbasket. Maybe sony should buy Project Red and GoG, perhaps then they can find the balls to actually do what they said they would.
Please make "My Rewards" for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 available via offline installers. Don't apply Micro-DRM to your own games! What will happen when you inevitably shut down this authentication service? Content should not be locked behind an online authentication! You know this yourselves! That's the whole reason people come to GOG.
I have no issue with GOG account verification requirements on Red Launcher on Steam, Epic and consoles. Gamers there are used to having multiple DRM, multiple launchers and all that nonsense. If nothing else, it may bring some gamers to GOG.
People come to GOG precisely to avoid this online authentication nonsense though. So don't punish your own loyal customer base! Have these items unlocked by default online or offline. It should be a reward for buying on GOG, not a reward for playing via Galaxy. Make Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 last forever in their entirety!
Adding DRM to own game from "DRM-Free" defenders is absolutely outrageous!!! Huge disappointment. Saying, that it is only small cosmetic part is absolutely ridiculous, DRM is never about amount!!!
This move by CDPR are completely immoral considering how negative they always have been towards DRM, and considering how strongly they earlier have spoken out AGAINST DRM!!!
On top of that, this clashes with using mods that require starting games via Vortex!!!
So FCK CDPR...
If parts of the game are locked behind an online connection, it's DRM, simple as that. And since DRM-free is basically the reason GOG exists, it has no business being in any games sold on this platform.
GOG removed it (interesting that), so the last complete archive of it at archive.org (Wayback Machine) is in the main post above).
Why are you always commenting something right before me xD where is fck drm? was it just fk dream?
There's no reason to purchase this game so long as there are rewards that require you to launch the game in Galaxy to gain access to them.
If you're going to insult, take your own advice, lol. No, they are NOT in the "Goodies" pack. I'm talking about the DRMed extras GATED behind Galaxy. If you'd bothered to read, you'd know that and that the store page agrees and links to the page explaining more about the DRM and how to get it. Not to mention this is exactly opposite to GOG's previous FCK DRM stance. Before you even posted, all YOUR complaints were already answered, so I won't repeat myself more.
What DRM? Incentives for using Galaxy do NOT count as DRM. Just FYI, The "Rewards" you're talking about are all in the "Goodies" pack, which is free for everyone, without using Galaxy. If you're going to complain, think before you type.
As I replied on the forum, if you look on that page for how to get your rewards, you'll see that if you own it on:
GOG (Store page and rewards page): "Launch The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt via GOG GALAXY 2.0 and start playing. Your rewards will be waiting for you in the Royal Palace in Vizima."
Steam/Epic: "Launch your chosen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt via REDlauncher and start playing. Your rewards will be waiting for you in the Royal Palace in Vizima."
XBox/PS5: "Return to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and start playing. Your rewards will be waiting for you in the Royal Palace in Vizima."
Out of those, I expect you to be online to play on Steam/Epic, anyway, and assume that's the case for consoles, too, so doesn't matter much for those. GOG, however, demands Galaxy/online for an offline game that says Rewards are for *owners*, but then goes on to say you have to use Galaxy to get them and if you ever start a new game, you have to use Galaxy again.
The title "Rewards for owning The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" is misleading, at best, false advertising, at worst, since not ALL owners get the rewards.
@wt777 On the PS5 I was asked whether or not I agree with sending telemetric data, and despite of choosing NO, I still got all the rewards. If that's not the case with the GOG version, I guess it must be either a bug, or a consent given in advance in the Galaxy app.
@wt77: Yeah, I'm not surprised. You'd have to assume they're gathering info the way they have you get the bonus stuff. @Pangaea666: I saw someone in one of the threads mention they'd do a wish after a little time had passed (not sure why the wait), but I kept waiting for someone to do it and after almost a month I decided that would have to be me, lol. I'm doing what I can. Spread this around so we get more votes. I'm voting with my wallet, too, which probably means more than this wish... if enough people do it.
Thanks for the wish. The GOG we knew and loved is no more. It's very sad. But when even they embrace DRM, it's just a matter of time until it's all over the place. I've backed up my entire library for safekeeping.
That the Game/Galaxy64.dll contacts external logging-servers on start is already a legal(GPDR) violation.
Sending data/metrics requires informed consent (and no penalty when denied) - but it seems when other games/stores do such things, then everybody else thinks it's ok to do such data-grabbing too.
