Witcher 3 GOTY upgrade possibility completed
Just realized this already happened... now I feel dumb for my previous post...
There is no reason to not implement this. Once a person owns TW3 + expansion pass, they effectively own the GOTY edition. Makes perfect logical sense to just offer a GOTY upgrade for $24.99 instead.
They should remove the expansion pass and replace it with the upgrade to GOTY
Please answer me... Sorry, I don't understand... I have base game and all Witcher's 3 additions and I have installed GOTY edition in GOG. Can I uninstall "not GOTY" game (with all additions)?
@valensaz93: basically you are correct you already have the content. The GOTY version simply has everything (Base game, both expansions and 16 free DLC) merged into one installer only (+language pack). It's just more convenient to intsll it this way.
Great! I just didn´t see any real reason why not to enable something already owned by content but in a different merged version. Some users had in mind to protect GOG and making the claim "non realistic" or "non deserved", both claims are wrong. It was no issue adding it to existing owners but there was certaínly a need for some programing first for a team already very busy; This sort of stuff is not done instantly. Of course the long time supporters indeed do deserve a improved version with the exact same content. I´m glad GOG had the same opinion, but simply was a bit slow in acting. After all GOG had so much stuff to execute, so i was avoiding it spreading unnecessary fire and i was just having patience, some stuff simply may take a bit of time. So there is no reason for any kind of accusation nor protection and it seems all are fine and i guess we all can be ... without any drawback... happy.

TYVM!
Спасибо команде GOG.
I really don't get this. I mean, I received the email today that I was upgraded to the GOTY edition and I'm like... "I already have the game with all expansions, what should I do with this?" it's a serious question: what does the goty edition have that my version doesn't? Am I loosing something??
Thank U GoG team.
Success! Thanks to everybody who voted for this. Also s great way they did it - the same way I hoped they would. This way nobody could be angry anymore. Thank you GOG and thank you CDPR. :)
yay, thanks for everyone who voted!
They did it!!
This can now be marked as completed :D
You have to understand that for us who early were Witcher "enthusiasts", it ain't just another game, and this opportunistic approach of "wait for best deal moment" as if it was another brand of toothpaste simply does not apply. Many of us started with buying Witcher I (even at the time when it was easier and very common to get a copy by less legal means), evangelising the game and the Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher universe, and eagerly waiting and supporting both GoG and CDPR in all its efforts in a way we could even when they were in financial difficulties - mostly by doing pre-orders for W2 and W3. That thing is called customer loyalty, and is one of the principles that both CDPR and GoG claims to respect as their core value that differentiates them from other studios and digital distributors. W3 is the first game in the series that used "expansion" & "season pass" selling model thing, and given by the previous expectations set by CPDR and GoG itself (free Enhanced editions, etc), it was very natural to expect that the loyalty by early adopters would be awarded by giving those expansions or upgrade path to GOTY at a discounted rate, at least to those that pre-ordered W3. But somehow it haven't happened, opportunists like you get much more value for their money than us who truly respects the franchise. Now, both CDPR and GoG became pretty successfully, and it seems they do not rely on or appreciate any of that loyalty that actually made them successful in the first place. There is still chance to fix that in the following weeks, some of us can still wait, but for others GoG became just another greedy and lame digital distributor.
Honestly I disagree with this. This is the price you pay when you do things like Pre-order, and launch buy. Yes you are supporting the inital release, but no one makes you do so. You have a choice on if you want to do that or not. Personally I wait for GOTY and definitive editions to be released. The price I pay for one product/one price is having to wait to play games roughly 1.5 years after release. It is a choice and GOG should be able to accommodate both types of customers. So it does make sense if you bought the game fractured... you should install it from the same fracturing.
This really is about (dis)appreciating loyalty from us early adopters who pre-ordered the game and helped the original game to become what it had became.
Anyone remember the initial release delay?
I am sure the $$$ CDPR got from pre-orders and early Witcher purchases by those loyal to the franchise directly fueled the delayed Withcer 3 development and brought Witcher 3 into the position to win GotY in the first place. It is really a final time for this loyalty to be appreciated by CDPR/GoG, or just to be lost forever.
I'd like to see this possibility as a courtesy for loyal fans and nothing else.
But seriously, are some of you really calling CDPR a rip-off company over this? You really need a reality check...this is a wishlist, not a "whine-list".
Seriously what is wrong with you guys? Why do you need GOTY when you already have everything? How entitled and greedy are you that you're mad a company isnt giving you something you don't deserve for free?
I also would like to get a way to upgrade my boxed copy of original W3 to GOTY edition.
Yes and no. Content wise base+expansions is the same as GOTY but there's some programming error on part of the CDP which makes mods incompatible with one or another (i.e. mods made for base+expansions don't work with GOTY)
From what I have read the Witcher 3 has been or will be the same as the GOTY edition. The only that we will be missing out on is the all in one installer. Is that really worth it?
Just FYI for GOG, I'm not buying the pass or expansions unless there's a clear path to getting GOTY out of it. Sure as hell not gonna buy the full GOTY game just to get expansions either.
Bought Witcher 3 on sale just ONE DAY before GOTY was released.... Why is there an upgrade option for so many games but not for this masterpiece?
This is so sad on the part of GOG.com. I have purchased everything available for the Witcher meaning Witcher 1-2 and Witcher 3 including All DLC's not only that I have also purchased the Witcher Adventure game so yes I own it all and why the hell do I have to buy the GOTY version when I have purchased the entire Library? Thanks GOG now to add another LOSER COMPANY TO THE LIST. Unreal how you sad money hungry animals are.
I can't believe it is cheaper to buy the whole goty, than buying the DLCs separately or the season pass for the base game i own... :(.
Very unfortunate that the base game with expansions cannot be convert to GOTY. Hope this could happen one day.
I'd like this option as well. It seems weird that the base game is $20, the GOTY is $30, and the base game with DLC is like $45.
I also have the original game and both of DLC's separately. And I also want an option to convert it to GOTY edition. It's frustrating...
@Magmarock: I already asked support and CDPR before I made this wishlist. Unfortunately they declined my wish :(
Ah........I wasn't aware of the goty ed being all in one installer. well, they could just let others who have purchased the base game plus expansions have it. other devs have done this.......inxhile with wl 2 dir cut. Anyway, they will do it or not. I will vote. but check out those sales
It is my understanding that Witcher 3 GOTY is the same as the regular edition with all the expansions purchased plus the free DLC. Just all in one bundle. So making an upgrade for people does not make sense. Especially if you have purchased all the expansions. It is just for people that don't have the game and want to purchase everything in one bundle. Also, if you break it down.....the prices for the individual content and the base game all add up to the same as the GOTY ed. So, if you just have the base game...just purchase the expansions. :) And FYI...there is a sale on W3 right now......as well as the expansions and the other games in the series. 50 % off the base game. www.gog.com/game/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt www.gog.com/game/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_hearts_of_stone and there is a sale on the GOTY ed at 40% off. https://www.gog.com/game/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_game_of_the_year_edition..........
With GOTY beeing on sale for 40% off it's really a predicament: waste 30€ to get the GOTY knowing I already payed for the base game+dlcs - or wait for an official response until the sale ends at november 13th.
It would also be great if there was an upgrade option to buy the GOTY for a reduced price if you own just the base game, especially so since the Expansion Pass has seemingly been forgotten by CDPR (never on sale, atm it's cheaper to get the DLC separately and that's ignoring how much a better bargain it is to get the GOTY outright, it's to the point that where I live it's almost cheaper to get the GOTY on sale than it is to get the Expansion Pass :( ).
You guys should keep in mind, that CDPR isn't the biggest team around. I'd honestly rather see a linux Galaxy client, than an upgrade that will give us literally nothing but a unified installer.
Hallo,
had gathered at witcher 3 2500 Oren and over 2000 Floren in the chest..then suddenly erverything was gone..ther is a limit ?
I just want to mention that I got the upgrade from simply asking support. Sometimes all one has to do is ask.
ttth
Please make it so
I bought all 3 games and my Witcher 1 & 2 are Enhanced Editions... and I should pay again full price for The WItcher 3 GOTY? Doesn't make any sense.
Also, it would be much appreciated if there is an upgrade option to GOTY for customers that only have the base game and not the expansion pass.
I preordered witcher 3 and the expansion pass, how come we do not get the upgraded features of the GOTY edition?
Reallly, still not available?
And if you only have the Witcher 3 base game then GOG should offer a sensibly priced upgrade option to the GOTY version. They've offered similar things in the past for other games.
Well let's see how long it takes until there is a proper response as to why it 1. is or 2. isn't possible to provide a unified installer for the owners of the base game+expansions.
800+ people have voted until now! Most imressive - obviously not for GOG?
Yes please! It's a pain to download and update all loose files. As a gesture to the people supporting the game, who bought all the expansions separately, a GOTY download link would be awesome.
I pre-ordered the base game because im a big fan of the series and of CDPR, but i got really dissapointed when the GOTY edition came out recently. You see, i paid the full price tag for the base game when now i can purchase the base+all expansions for 50$. Now if i want to add the expansions to complete my game experience i need to pay another 25$ which means i pay a total of 75$. One would expect the most gamer-friendly company to come towards its fanbase and give some disscounts for my support, that i bought directly from GOG and not Steam, but i will learn my lesson and will not purchase from GOG in the future.
