A real-time city building game, The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom is often praised as the best Settlers game to date in the series. I would love to play it but its draconian DRM restrictions requiring a constant internet connection to the publisher's servers (Ubisoft) is preventing me from purchasing it. I hope a DRM free version on GOG.com will allow fans of the game to enjoy it without the sharp frustrations of Ubisoft's DRM.

Have it with UPlay and DRM, would buy it here without both once more. Though I guess Ubisoft is one hard company to make any deals with.

Yes, it seems that according to this post below on the Steam forum made on 02/21/2013 regrarding The Settlers 7 DRM, the main campaign is now playable without the constant internet connection.forums.steamgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1423108&page=24However, that post also mentions that all the online options, and DLC maps, are still unavailable when offline. Hence, you only get access to the vanilla game offline. DLC content still requires a constant internet connection. And if someone has the Gold edition (which has DLC content), then the constant connection is still mandatory.

Ubisoft have officially removed the always-online DRM approximately a week ago (just let the UPlay client update itself) - it is now possible to play Settlers 7 offline.

It's a brilliant game, my favourite installment in the series, as a matter of fact... The always-online requirement needs to be patched out, the sooner that happens, the better - for everyone involved.

I loved this game, just finished it actually. I doubt Ubi will let go of their DRM though...
