If you've completed SPAZ and aren't keen on the way SPAZ2 has deviated from the traditional combat paradigm, Escape Velocity ($30 from www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/ ) has been doing this right since the 90s and Endless Sky (FREE from endless-sky.github.io ) is feature-rich, with a growing multi-faction campaign and a huge range of ships and modules to combine.
