SimCity 2000 Special Edition (Windows 95 version)
I like the DOSBox version of Sim City 2000 from GOG. It offers an launcher for the various features of the Special Edition and it just works.
The real benefit of the Win95 version is higher resolution graphics and widescreen support. I use the GOG version to build and the Win95 version to enjoy the results or to fine tune.
I got the Win95 version to work under Windows 11 by following the instructions under "Install Only with a modified 32-bit installer": www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/SimCity_2000#Windows_Issues_fixed
I managed to get Sim City 2000 to work on Windows 11. It works fine, so it's not impossible. However, the original code needs a patch and EA would need to allow GOG to apply such patch.
The problem is the 16bit setup that cannot install the 32bit version of the game under Windows 10 and/or 11. I had to download a "Is3Engine.zip" that contained a "setup32.exe" file to perform the installation. After the installation, another "SimCity_2000_compatibility_patch.zip" extracts a "SIMCITY.EXE" that solves the issues with save games. With those two easy patches, SimCity 2000 SE Windows 95 Edition runs fine for me.
Please add the Windows 95 Sim City 2000 Special Edition so I can actually see the game! I did buy the DOS version, but it is unplayable for me due to my vision and the UI. Thank you!
+1 pour cette version, prévoir également le jeu en version française pour les textes (cette version française existe en physique, je l'avais acheté)
What is on GOG now IS the Special Edition, it's just the DOS version. Both versions are on a Special Edition disc. Likewise, both versions should be on GOG.
In the past, it was more difficult to get the Windows version running because Windows 95-era programs are just like that. Nowadays, there are methods to get key games like SimCity 2000 running pretty well.

the w95 edition is more fluid and can be run in widescreen
Really missing the extra hotkeys from the 95 version. It's a quality of life feature that is missing from the DOS version.
twocows: The Win 95 version is 32-bit. The only current difficulty (since I DO have the Special Edition CD-ROM) is that the version of InstallShield used at the time used a 16-bit stub launcher. That one small part is the one thing preventing me from testing on my Win 8 Pro 64-bit laptop :(
I'd DEFINITELY buy the 95 version, but I think it's 16-bit like many older Windows games. I'm not sure how they could get it running. Maybe a self-contained virtual machine or something?
SimCity 2000 originally came out for MS-DOS back in the day. Come 1995, and Microsoft helped port it to native Windows 95 code, specifically to show off the capabilities of the then-new operating system
The one up right now is similar but it's not the same. It might be SimCity 2000, but it feels too different. The Windows 95 version would be fantastic.
I have the Special Edition CD, but can't run the Windows 95 version installed (because, at the time, InstallShield used a 16-bit stub EXE - which of course don't run on 64 bit systems). The DOS version on that Disc is the full blown Special Edition, but I mainly want the ability to play with the Windows-only extras (like the Debug menu), as well as see Launch Arcos, well, "Launch"
OT: I'd like to have the Win 95 version as I prefer the updated UI, not needing DOSBOX, the extra scenarios (iirc), and more. Installed straight away on Windows 7, the saving is an issue, but there is a patch in existence for that.
Yeah, I don't like that they named what they released as the Special Edition when it's the normal DOS release, not the Special Edition :\
