It's polish version of the game, and polish site that requires you to pay for download or gather points to get it for free. Don't want to get into details, but assume downloading might be a problem for non-polish users.
Anyway that;s the instruction I developed some time ago, it it appears to be still working:
1. Install the game using normal game's installer
2. Copy "custom" directory to the game's installation directory
3. Copy also scenarios directory if you want to play my custom maps I've included
4. If you want to watch videos (intro, season change), copy also HNS directory and set compatibility with win 98
5. In extras/OST dir is original game's music. You can play it using any music player during the game, or you might try burning it into CD, so game should be able to play it by itself.
Note: for me the game was always working WITHOUT setting compatibility mode. Compatibility mode is only required to be able to watch in game videos.
It worked till win 7. Not tested with win10, but on win 11 the cursor is blinking making it hard to play.
JarlFenrir I have some version of saga. It worked almost perfectly on win 7, but on win 11 the mouse cursor is blinking making it very hard to play. But generally the game can be run.
You can copy videos and scenarios to game's directory to make it work without the CD.

VirginityPopper Well, I tried following the @HeavenlyColor 's guide, but I only get "The file does not exist" error, just like @Arbikat and @gestuga . Cryo.exe is indeed in compability mode with Windows 98 and I do run it as administrator. The reason might be I am trying to make it run on Windows 11, don't know how much of a diffrence it makes.

garithos24 @Dulcimer I managed to install it and you are right. You need to put the setup in compatibility mode. I also managed to play it online via hamachi!! If anyone wants to play against me just tell me so we can manage some great games!!
Dulcimer Hi everyone! I had the same problem of 'File does not exist'. My solution was to do the exact steps on the SETUP.exe instead of the Cryo.exe
HeavenlyColor @Arbikat @gestuga I did not encounter any such issue while following the steps I outlined in the guide. Have you made sure that you are running everything as administrator and in the comparability modes?

HeavenlyColor Hello everyone. The old links don't seem to work, but here is one I found that worked for me on Windows 10:

Note: the site is Russian, but the game itself is in English. I haven't detected any viruses from these downloads.
1. In the list of files, find the bottom-most entry "Образ диска" and click on the "Скачать файл" link. This will take you to a new window. This is the game's CD image file.
2. In the new window, click on the link at the bottom that says "[http ссылка]". This will start your download.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the penultimate file in the list on the main page, titled "Обновление". This is the game's WinXP patch and is supposed to allow you to play without a CD (without the image mounted), but I haven't tested it for lack of a need.
4. Upon downloading, extract both folders.
5. Mount the ISO through your preferred client ("SAGA_EV148" CUE file to do so).
6. You should now have an additional drive titled "X:\SAGA_EV159", where X is the letter of the drive.
7. Right-click on "Cryo.exe" -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 98/ME -> Run as administrator.
8. Run "Cryo.exe," this will install the game.
9. After installation, go back to the second folder you extracted, "SAG115". Inside you should find another zip file, also "SAG115". Extract that.
10. Therein you should find "Saga". Copy + paste that into the game directory.
11. You will be asked if you want to replace the existing "Saga" file. Select the option to replace the file.
12. Now, right-click on "Saga.exe" -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP SP2 -> Run as administrator.
13. You can now launch the game by double-clicking on "Saga.exe".
I played the first learner mission to test it out and to get the feel for the game again. First of all, the default speed is so fast! I remember having to slow it down as a kid. Should note that the speed bar is fluid, giving so much more versatility than in other RTS of the era (StarCraft, AoE, etc.). However, the lack of keyboard shortcuts, such as "b" for "build," became painfully apparent very quickly as I had gotten used to using shortcuts through playing StarCraft and AoE2 competitively. However, I feel like this may be a good game for me to unwind with and play on a slower speed with no keyboard shortcuts against some PCs, so perhaps it is for the best.
Anyway, upon completing the first mission, it brought me directly to the next mission without fault. At this point I quit the game and headed over to GOG to write this guide for the next person who may be looking to relive some nostalgic memories. I hope someone finds this helpful, cheers!
PS: If you are new to the game, you can also check the first and/or link on the Russian site and download what is listed as a manual of sorts, which explains units/buildings/commands/etc. The name to the left of the file is "Документация".
btty87 jiri1990: I tried the method and it kinda worked. Got the game to start up but can't get the game to read the scenarios so I can't play anything. Did you experience this as well?

Ristola For the record, though: I would much rather much buy and own it through GOG so that hopefully Cryo Interactive'd get some kind of royalties for it because abandonware feels a bit so-and-so, but it's the only solution as I see it at the moment as it's not available anywhere.
Ristola jiri1990: Man, I can't than you enough for this. I've tried to get it running from various abandonware sites a few times in the past but always ran into that issue and gone back and forth with compatibility settings and everything. Then today I figured I wanted to try seeing if I could do it again because I had dug out an old laptop with Windows 95, but then out of curiosity I found your post when searching for "Saga rage of the vikings windows 7 64bit", found the patch you mentioned and unzipped it and now it bloody starts and works like a charm. Or well, the cursor is a bit flickery and the resolution will take a while getting used to on my big monitor, but still runs and works. Cheers, man!
Edgezz It´s so good! It had summer/winter cycle, different unique factions, an interesting trading and hero system. You even could mix your factions by buying another factions women! Please gog! I need only Wiggles and Saga!

jiri1990 Hello everybody. I managed to find, install and play SAGA after a while of searching and trying.
I downloaded it here and opened the bin file using Magic ISO www.theisozone.com/downloads/pc/windows-games/saga-rage-of-the-vikings/
After extracting the bin file I installed it and launched.
In case of 32x 64x system problem you can find a patch "saga115"
