One Must Fall: Battleground
The game works if you run it through DxWnd, that resolves the input issues. Couldn't work around the "Glow" issue but maybe newer graphics API wrappers could work here. The game looks absolutely AMAZING with ReShade btw.
Resurrecting this one once again. Another game I would like to play through GoG for ease of access.
+1000000
Also the mythical dev tools
This is one of those relics that should be digged up and brought back to light.
While it's almost completely different compared to it's predecessor, it was still fun in its own right. Going from 1v1 2D game to bigger multiplayer matches and 3D.
As it is, it's very annoying to make work on modern systems and digging up the patches seems almost impossible. I'm not sure if they ever finished the mastery tournament things for all robots either.
It would be great to have this one added to GoG, just for a chance to get to play it again. Huge plus if the multiplayer works too, even if LAN only.
It's funny the original OMF 2097 is my favorite fighting game ever and in my top 5 of all time and yet I never heard of the sequel until in the last few weeks of 2019. Now that I know about it, it doesn't seem possible to play on a modern PC and I'm bummed out. Hey GOG instant buy from me too if you get it working.
It suffers from incompatibilities with modern Windows versions and the patches are nigh impossible to hunt down. If you somehow managed to publish working and updated version it would be instant buy from me.
This is one of my 'Desert Island' games. If I was trapped on a deserted island, what games would I bring? This, Hellgate: London(original), and X-COM(original). The matches can be so dynamic with arenas, hazards, more than just 2 people fighting at once on a single axis, the pilot and HAR combinations, and AI difficulty. You can gradually increase the difficulty and challenge yourself more and more. I don't know if there is a difficulty ceiling.
Like JouluPam, I was also a beta tester and I got to meet the team, Roy & Ryan's mom, Judy, when they went to the Cyber X Games in Las Vegas in 2003. I got to play versus the developers and almost, ALMOST literally beat them at their own game. :)
This game got trashed in the press. I remember reading an article about how "all the robots have as much agility as C-3PO." Anyone who actually played the game for more than a minute can see that is clearly false. Some people found the game hard to control, so they added a tutorial and training room. The devs were very responsive while the game was supported. Personally, I never had any problem learning the controls. I couldn't fly like some of the expert Force players, but I did alright. Something about the basic control scheme just 'clicked' with me. I don't know what the magazines were talking about.
I think the real downfall of this game was marketing and publishing. It just came out too soon. A year later and it could have been part of the digital revolution with Steam. Then they wouldn't have needed a publisher or actual discs. Patches could be delivered, effortlessly. Community mod makers could have make their own arenas, characters, or whole tournaments. All if only it came out a year later. This game deserves another shot. It deserves to be revived.
Gameplay video.

Ich liebe das Spiel. Bitte bringt es hier auf die Plattform!
Like this sequel. Not as much as the first part, but this game had so much unique features and avery own style.
It was not as simple as OMF 2097 because of the 3rd dimension, but then again that`s why you could do more. And the brawling away with 4 bots in one arena with it`s traps and specials was simply stunning.
Yeah, I`d love to see this one at Gog and would buy it... again :)
This game was before it's time, before skullgirls, greenlights, crowd funds, indie being a reasonable option, and online distribution being dominant in sales, Rob Elam split off from unreal entertainment to develop a PC focused sequel to one must fall 2097 at the time unreal only focusing on the unreal IP. Rob set off to start a small studio centered in Florida to develop a PC fighting game that attempted to tackle the problem of +2 man match and fighting in a 3D space. Closet successful attempt is Anarchy Reigns, but to Battlegrounds it was closer to traditional fighting then character action games, but was possible to deal unlimited combos closer to turbo or hyper modes in fighting games.
Several factors attributed to it's long development cycle, small team, built from scratch engine, fighting game mechanics, and once they had a publisher it was one with a problematic history. With all these factors, the little train that could did make it to release and had patches released, however the full mod tools were not released to public. One factor that did play in was certain poor game reviews partly effecting the sales for post release and back in the day not every game was given a 10 out of 10 and in fact PC gamer's critic gave false information about the game such as there being a sideblock when the person said there wasn't.
Regardless, I enjoyed the game and what was unique to my experience with this fighting unlike others, I do not recall ever having the term 'Johns' or 'salt'. When you were beaten by an human opponent online who knew how to connect his combos, it was an enjoyable experience to be on the receiving end. The juggling the player one had to do was appreciated and though they might get you in an unlimited combo, it didn't mean another player could counter break you out (think smash bros rules but keeping a close eye on each other to help or get a leg up on). The dynamic music also went well as the icing on the unusual cake.
I implore that this game to be on GOG because it's something to inspire future developers not to shy away from instead of believing it can't be done or try everything from scratch. It should be something to look into as a ladder to make games in like street fighter two was to killer instinct now, then to be forgotten.
I'd love to see a GOG release of OMF: Battlegrounds!
Oh the memories. One little cabin and 8 players on game. What a action phew. Great multiplayer game.. This is game what i want see gog's gamelist someday.
I was a beta tester of this game. I thought it was great, but unfortunately the patches needed to actually be able to enjoy the game weren't downloaded by most people, including the reviewers, which leaded to a bad reputation. Yet I think people would be interested to play this game.
It currently only works on windows XP. If gog were able to publish a patched version compatible to windows 7 & 8 this game could gain new life online. I would love to play it, it surely was great. Rob Elam, the games creator, could probably be contacted somehow and asked if gog could use the game.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I'd definately buy this. Was listening to the soundtrack today. It's got some great tracks.
I loved One Must Fall 2097 sooo much. I never even knew this game existed until I came to vote for 2097 and saw this thread. I've been looking for a way to purchase both and I've not really found one outside of Amazon. Not crazy about buying from them but I would add it to my GoG account gladly!
Really underrated fighting game. Still flawed but the patches that followed it helped and it was still a lot of fun.
It wasn't as sharp as it's predecessor, but I'd still love to have a copy of it.
