Myst for Linux
Ok, so I spent a half day now to get myst running properly on my ubuntu system. The easiest way is to install it on any windows machine, copy the game folder to your Linux, install latest snap of ScummVM, point it to the game and youre done. BUT if you wish to have language support (german for me) things are getting harder. There is no ScummVM version which supports the languages by default. So have a look at the game folder, there is a folder called "source" with a zip file and patches in it. Unzip the zip file and copy the patches in the extracted folder. Open the folder in a Terminal, run "git init" and then patch the repository by running "git apply 0001-GUI-Special-theme-for-Myst-25th-anniversary.patch" and "git apply 0002-MOHAWK-MYST-Add-support-for-the-localized-ME-25th-ga.patch". Now you can build ScummVM from this source by following this guide: wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=Compiling_ScummVM/GCC After building ScummVM you can run it and point it to your game folder and voila there you can choose your language :) Happy gaming!
That would be awesome! I'd like to play those games on Linux too. Not only Myst and Myst ME but also Riven is supported by scummvm. And on top "Myst III - Exiles" runs with ResidualVM which is also Linux supported ;)
I think you would make al lot of people happy :)
Myst and Myst Masterpiece Edition are nowadays supported by SCUMMVM. You can easily set it up by using a recent enough SCUMMVM version and pointing to the installation directory of Myst. SCUMMVM should recongize it and add it as a game. (See www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/scummvm-adds-support-for-myst-in-their-daily-builds.6911)
It would be nice if GOG would provide an automatic install for this, though.
I haven't yet played the game, but it shows the videos and starts without issue. Tested on Fedora 27 Beta.
Yes, please! The physical media already included Mac versions of the games, may we please have it available on Windows, Mac, AND Linux?
