Get excited, classic gaming enthusiasts. Gaming developer Double Fine is going to be re-releasing some classic titles for the PC and consoles, and up in the queue are HD remakes of two of the more well-known titles from LucasArts' body of adventure games: Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango. Double Fine founder Tim Schafer announced the new versions of these classic (but great) titles at today's PlayStation Experience event in Las Vegas. As you might expect, both are going to hit both the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita when they're released. And in a little hat-tip to their roots, both titles will also make it to the PC as well. And fear not, Mac or Linux fans—you'll also be able to play both. As for when said titles might see the light of day, Schafer announced that Grim Fandango will arrive on January 27. There's no timeline just yet for Day of the Tentacle: Special Edition, so we can only presume that gamers are going to get their hands on Grim Fandango first. Though Schafer didn't show off a trailer for the updated Day of the Tentacle, he did show off some of the work Double Fine has been doing to bring Grim Fandango forward into the modern age. Or, to put it another way, we've come a long way since SCUMM and GrimeE—the games' original engines.

If they really want a graphical up-rez so badly, they should have just talked to the ScummVM guys about patching up-rezzed graphics into the original resources. ScummVM already runs on a lot more platforms than they plan to support.

We don't want the remake. This game looked just fine with its SVGA graphics. A hell of a lot better than 99% of all the so-called "retro" games that have come out the last few years. It's one of the few games from the 90s that don't need a remake. It just needs a 32 bit executable that will run on modern systems (since x64 computers don't support 16 bit code).
