Criminally underappreciated gem! Seriously, how many more truly non-linear point-and-click adventures with multiple endings do you know? Wherever I happen to join any kind of "BEST GAME EVARR!!!!111" discussion, I always nominate "Culpa Innata", even for non-genre specific categories. After which I usually have to explain what on earth "Culpa Innata" is to a room of confused faces. Yes, I've played almost all of the usual candidates for the title. No, I am not showing off. Neither am I hipstering (is that even a thing?). Usually I'm not even a biggest point-and-click adventure fan in the room. It's just the game is that good. Let me explain. However amazing many point-and-click classics with cult followings are, "Culpa Innata" has a very distinct and particular quality, that in my opinion puts it head and shoulders above the more well know competition. The quality that for the first time in my then 15+ years of playing games made me truly feel like an investigator leading an investigation. And that is because this point-and-click adventure game is unlinear. So many times in so many adventure games it comes to a point of "What am I supposed to do now?!", with player trying to find that one dialogue/combination/interaction that would let him proceed on with the plot, on to next puzzle. Playing boils up to collecting everything you can, talking to everyone you can, interacting with everything you can. Add pixel-hunting and insane inventory combination for an old-school feel. With these games you are not playing, you are bruteforcing them. Not in "Culpa Innata" though. You can do a lot of things there, but here's a catch - you shouldn't. Because some of those things are useless at best and some are totally detrimental. If you do or say something just for the sake of it you may very well may screw the lead and come to the dead end. You're gonna need to try another angle then, look into other leads, follow them solve the case that way or who knows, maybe you would learn that that dead end isn't as definitive as you have thought it was. The opposite is true as well. Almost all the progress you make (if any) is the result of you being attentive, initiative and making an effort to connect the dots. More often than not a solution is not a puzzle solved, but deduction... uh... deduced. Follow a lead, make a judgement when you have to, and first and foremost - think. The answer is there. You just have to deduce it. Not stumble upon it. Of course, it is not without flaws: interface is a bit clunky to my taste, some dislike the plot and/or ideas behind it, graphics is what you would expect from 10 years old game, and there are some other annoying moments here and there. So it's not perfect. But no game is. And if there ever was a game that deserved to be remembered and saved it would most certanly be "Culpa Innata".

tl;dr
Playing ususal point-and-click is following a rope with knots, that you untangle to proceed. "Culpa Innata" is a spiderweb! More deduction that puzzle-solving. Also your actions alter the plot.

I came across mention of this game and it looks really interesting! But I'd only purchase an uncut version, which at the moment does not seem to be available as digital download from any storefront. Go get 'er GOG, it'll be another GOG exclusive!

Gorgeoes point & click adventure game about a young peace officer investigating the murder of a World Union Citizen in Russia... which just happens to coincide with the death of a professor in Adrianopolis.
