Multiple folders for game installations completed
Oh, it's in progress, so that's why they did not respond to my tweet! xD
You CAN tell Galaxy both where to temporarily download the game files/installer and where to install them. What this wish is asking is for a per-game folder selection.
An easy workaround is download the standalone installer, install the game and then import it into Galaxy. It is a perfectly viable solution if we're talking about a game or two.
I cannot personally believe GOG would go out and not allow us to pick where games are installed. I cannot find how to change it in settings either. I am truly amazed that the GOG team did not address this before release. Pathetic.
We also should be able to sort x86 and x64 games in different folders
I understand the product is in beta. That being siad, I sort my games into category folders; "RPGs", "TBSs", "RTSs", etc. For that reason, I support the idea of custom per-game install folders.
I find things like this as unnecessary and pointless. Just download the files yourself, either by the downloader or do it individually.
Make sure that all of the .bin files or other program-body files pertaining to a particular .exe file are in the same folder with their .exe file. Then double click the .exe file.
It will give you the install options and install the game via a GOG window.
Same with the updates. Just make sure to do them in the proper order, you know version number to version number or what have you.
If you run into a permissions issue, then simply boot into safe mode and try it again.
I would never fuss with Galaxy or any other application if I don't have too because more often than not, it comes with it's own set of issues and problems.
Installed The Witcher 3 by using the 4 DVDs that took me allmost an hour, and when I am finished, GOG starts to download the game again, as if not installed? 27 GB I have to download, for it to install it again. That is the stupidest thing I have ever seen.
Dumbest game interface in the Galaxy. Had to redownload the bugger again. Fix this asap, Gog!
I've got the MAC Galaxy Client because I thought it would be a good idea, but... I wish I could install my games on a custom folder, but "settings" => "folders" doesn't allow me to do so. There is a little message which says "Valid Paths: external volumes & /Applications/" So, if I want to install my games on a custom folder and not on "Applications" folder, just FORGET IT! WE WON'T ALLOW YOU TO DO THAT! Just Great PS: I tried "other location" => "new folder" BUT IT DOES NOT WORK!
can't just download the games for later install where I want. Fuck might as well have DRM and mandatory online access. Gog downloader was simple but worked now GOG gives us garbage. I have to manually down load with IE what a pain!!! Steam is better than this!!!
What annoys me is I just bought W3 today and downloaded it via GOG Galaxy but I told Galaxy to install games to my G drive vs C but it put it to my SSD C drive. It seems to auto delete the 27GB file after it installed so now I have to chew up another 27GB of my bandwidth to download it again to install it to my G drive in order to get Galaxy to recognize and update it or apply DLC's? Come on....I scanned my G Drive with Galaxy and it said it found no compatible games when I moved the game folder there beforehand (and yes it launches fine from that folder). Totally lame =(
Just so you know, you can install the game using the standalone installer and then telling Galaxy to scan that location for games. That's the beauty of this DRM-free thing.
And, as far as I can tell, standalone installers are smaller than the Galaxy download. Or, at least, they seem to take a lot less time in my crappy internet connection.
Similar request here: www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy/choose_install_location_on_per_game_basis
I had this problem but to solve it all you need to do is click on the little cog in the bottom left of the GOG Galaxy and in there look for the part where it says "Install games to" and from there select the drive you wish to save the games to! Problem solved, although if you do want to install to a different drive you will have to change location again.
Hope this helps!
What are you guys talking about, maybe the guys that wrote it like 10 days ago were in the right but people complaining now for what? There's a option to change where the gog application installs the games.
utter shit, comes up withcode 3 checksum error every time i try to install witcher 3 . never again will i buy your shit no wonder it was cheaper than the rest. server problem also..fuck off and die slow the lot of you
honestly i cant comprehend how no one thought this was an unnecessary feature
this could have been made so much easier.
really i am installing the witcher for the third time today, because it goes directly to my SSD. The fun thing is that you can't stop the installation progress.
If you would like me to keep using your client, please work on these faults that don not make the client fun, quick and easy to handle
@R0ADK1LL doesn't work for me, I get this message: INSTALLATION FAILED:OUT OF DISK SPACE, even when I have plenty of space. I tried to import, verify and repair and nothing works. I can't reinstall it back! help please!
Agreed it's complete BS. I can't install it on my C drive there is barely enough space for that. Also I don't want it there.
Same problem, its not rocket science. Let us install our games where we want
This is utter shit, Galaxy is installed on my SSD and can't install The Witcher 3 on it because you wont let me choose the drive, just pathetic and stupid
I cannot install witcher 3 to D drive through GOG Galaxy and it is driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!!
@torp you can change where the games are installed even with the current versions, having multiple folders would be nice though.
Definitely need to have a wizard to set drive locations on Galaxy install. I installed Galaxy to my D: drive but was unaware that it was installing The Witcher 3 to my C: drive. Now that more of us are using SSD C: drives solely for the OS, this is VERY VERY bad. I tried to move the folder and hack the registry to point to the correct location on the D: drive buy Galaxy couldn't pick up the location. An ideal feature would be to put drive management into your client so that you can move games between drives on the fly as needed.
Right now the galaxy client is completely useless to me on both Mac and Windows because it tries to install in /Applications on OS X and in /Program Files on Windows. I cannot preload Witcher 3 because I don't have space on the partition holding the OS... while 300 G on the games partition go unused :)
freaking dumb they dint fix this at the start!!! GoG Galaxy more like GaLAZY.
Fix this NOW
@R0ADK1LL Thank you very much for explaining how to transfer the already-installed Witcher 3 to another partition! I didn't have to re-download the whole game to install it to my new SSD :) You rock!
Yeah, I gave it a shot, but I don't feel very comfortable fiddling around with this new client until I know my games are safe the way I have them organized.
Yes, it would be wonderful if we could choose where to install a game. And possibly move them around easily.
TEMPORARY SOLUTION: In the lower right hand side of the Galaxy GUI, where your game library is, there is a cog icon. Select it and you can change your install directory. There's no option to prompt install path, which is annoying, but then again, Galaxy is currently in beta at this time. Hopefully they add file path selection soon.
This is dead ordinary, at least having a file path or configuration option during the install dialogue would be great... After installing Galaxy to my games drive, I didn't think I would have to also set paths for download etc. So now I have 24 gig of W3 which I may have to redownload because I can't get the client to redirect to my e: drive by just copying the folder over and pointing to it.
Tested. I pre-loaded The Witcher 3, downloaded & installed to D:/GOG Games (HDD). I then changed the install path to C:/GOG Games (SSD) & exited Galaxy. I moved the install files from D to C drive, then re-opened Galaxy. From there I had to verify the game cache & accept the EULA again & the game installed in next to no time. I changed the install path back to D:/GOG, no problems.
Yes, please. Witcher 3 I plan on putting on my SSD, but games that are not load/unpack heavy I would like to install on my regular platter drives to save space on the SSD. With the old installer each game had an install path option on unpack; this needs to be incorporated into the Galaxy client.
Really, REALLY need this to work. I basically can't play Witcher 3 if this doesn't happen. Help me CDPR you're my only hope!
This is a must. I install some games on my SSD and some on my spinning-rust-drives. The placement depends on space available as well as the needs of the games.
Sure, I can get away with installing Star Trek 25th Anniversary on my spinning-rust-drive, but Witcher 3 needs to be on my SSD, baby!
Please, make it work basically the same as Steam Library Folders.
isn't this what the folders settings are for? Especially the option "manage all folders manually"? I just tried the option and it doesn't do what I expected. Why is this even an option?; the settings should just use the user's choice. Here is what I'd do:
1. there should be a reset folders to default button, and the folder path settings should just always be used.
2. the "manage all folders manually" option should make it so that the user is prompted every time they install a game to select the install directory so the user can manually manage the game folders.
3. it would be nice to have saved locations so that with the prompt the user can select "SSD library" or "HDD library" or whatever they have as saved locations. I imagine this would be a bit harder to implement though.
Please implement multiple game install folders e.g. like Steam Libraries.
Also, please let us filter displayed games, based on which drive they are installed on.
GrimSqueaker42, no need for a 3rd-party tool if you want to create junction points. Windows already has a command-line tool for this purpose: mklink :)
Until implemented you can also use junction points (ntfs reparse point) for games already installed. Just move the folder on your SSD and create a junction in the old folder pointing to it.
The system will handle the folder as if it was still in place, while the real data is in a different location.
As a tool to create them on windows you can use "Junction Link Magic" for example.
"In progress"
Great !
Need this badly. This breaks Galaxy in my opinion. Cant install a game til this works.
@Destro. Good to hear its in the works. Would it be possible to add the ability to relocate game folders as well in Galaxy? On Steam you have to do a workaround where you copy the game to the new directory, uninstall it in Steam, then 'reinstall' it to the new folder. Since the files are already there, it doesn't need to re-download. It'd be far nicer if you could just do it within the client. :)
@Destro: Yes, I just checked with the beta client. This really works great. Still a workaround. You need to download the game separate as "offline" installation and install the game to your target-folder first., then use the library of Galaxy to add it. As I said it is a nice workaround, still hope this will make a proper implementation possible to keep things smooth. Thank you very much.
I installed GOG Galaxy to another internal drive (instead of system drive C: which is SSD), but installer still installs the games to system drive C:. I should be able select install location. Please, waiting for this feature to install my games...
Agreed. Also, please implement for the Mac client as well!
Besides the SSD/HDD thing, this is also useful for us parents who have games that aren't appropriate for our kids (yet) and want to install them where they can't get at them.
Another vote for this. I have a small SSD and the fact that even though I put Galaxy on a different drive it installs the games to the SSD is a deal breaker.
This is definitely a must if GOG Galaxy is going to be compared to Steam.
For now a workaround that does the trick of having games installed in different paths is to change installation path in the settings before each installation of the game. Later on you will be able to change it at the beginning of every installation (we'll change this tiny EULA screen)
