Don't make Galaxy autostart (give us the option) completed
This already exists in Settings
Yeah, total headache GOG, we do (alas) have to work on our Mac's as well as game. To effectively try to cripple our productivity with an app that really doesn't need to be running is sus.
it's nice ppl are offering solutions and workarounds to this (i've tried 3 so far and none have worked for me) AND: this is a good feature request bc it shouldn't be up to users to edit their registry to get a program to stop doing something the user doesn't want. baffling that this has been going on for so long, needs to be fixed GOG
thank you, @swissmann
Swissmann solution worked for me, thank you!
There is an option for this in Settings>General than uncheck Launch GOG Galaxy at system startup.
The solution of swissman finally worked for me! Thank you very much, man!
Mac. In Applications Folder right (control) click on "GOG Galaxy" app. Show Package Contents. Contents-Library-LoginItems. Right (control) click on "GOG Galaxy Auto Launch Helper" and Compress. Trash the non zip "GOG Galaxy Auto Launch Helper". Now it doesn't autostart. Unzip the zip file you created for autostart to work again (assuming). This worked for me so far Mac OS 10.13.6 GOG Galaxy 2.0.43 (66).
Yep, same issue on my mac. Even when de-selected at the computer settings to not start at login, it still does. I'm going to end up deleting the app at this rate. This needs a fix!
+1, I'm having to delete the client as it's currently faulty
It would seem my only option is deleting it from my Mac. Little loss since most of the games won't launch through the GOG Galaxy anyway.
Please fix the annoying autostart on mac. There is nowhere I could uncheck for it.
Delete the launcher from my Mac. autostart was unchecked. Fix your software!
01 May, 2021.
Same Proplem with autostart on the latest Windows 10.
GOG's support is usuless and rude, there is no help for opened ticket in 3 months,
GOG's client - piece of annoying crap, as Cyberpunk is it.
Delete GOG's client. Downrate GOG, CD Project, Cyberpunk. We cant suport the company who ruins its products,
CD rpojects has a serious problems in management style, this company will shut down soon. There will be just Microsoft, Valve and Sony. There is no place for usuless team like GOG's developers.
I will serarch for your resumes to ban it,
Arthur, Chief Human Resousers Officer DICE
win user: check the autostart with taskmanager. If you see the gog client twice...then this is the problem..I uninstalled the client and after this there was only one autostart entry...so this is the faulty one....
you need to delte it in the registry.
i used this program to delete the wrong entry which direkts to the gogclient.exe --> docs.microsoft.com/de-de/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns
or you can delete the entry in registry "LaunchOnStartup..."
Here in my case it was this path ---> Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\LaunOnStartup
Good Luck
NEEDS FIXED ON MAC! Ongoing issue for TOO LONG. People gonna ditch it. I'm about to. SMH, c'mon.
Ehrm. Wot? < GOG Galaxy > Preferences [Settings] > General > Auto Start - Uncheck.
Its still the case. Deleted it.
very annoying. thumbs up.
Same issue with mac. It opens automatically every time - it is so frustrating! Uninstalling until the issue is fixed.
When you release Cyberpunk I was trying to buy it in GOG but it crashed, so I bought it in Steam. So GOG seams to be useless peace of shit with not working settings. Either you fix this autostart checkbox or I uninstall it.
uninstalling.. it is very annoying
uninstalled on Mac OS 14 will consider reinstalling if you fix this problem.
Aha, got it:
sudo rm -r /Applications/GOG\ Galaxy.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/GOG\ Galaxy\ Auto\ Launch\ Helper.app
Ok I figured out the path: sudo rm /Applications/GOG\ Galaxy.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/GOG\ Galaxy\ Auto\ Launch\ Helper.app and that does ask for my password. HOWEVER, I get an output of "rm: /Applications/GOG Galaxy.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/GOG Galaxy Auto Launch Helper.app: is a directory" which leads me to believe it's not deleted.
To be clear, I get to /Applications/GOG\ Galaxy.app/Contents/Library/Login-Items and I'm told it's not a directory. /Applications/GOG\ Galaxy.app/Contents/Library is a directory though.
Can someone repost what NeoVanGoth wrote without any HTML? I'm having a hell of a time copy/pasting, and figuring out what should/shouldn't be in my terminal window.
On macOS, delete `/Applications/GOG Galaxy.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/GOG Galaxy Auto Launch Helper.app` to prevent the client from starting on login.
Do NOT delete or disable `/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.gog.galaxy.ClientService.plist`, otherwise the client won't work anymore.
Really annoying. Fix your checkbox!!!
I'm not going to use GOG Galaxy until this issue has been fixed. I can't stand apps hijacking my computer's login process.
Noticed the same thing, "launch GOG Galaxy at system startup" option in preferences is unchecked, yet GOG still autostarts at every boot. Sort of annoying but I appreciate that there are probably bigger issues that gog is working on.
It's truly annoying.
Same issue here on Mac. Checkbox doesn't work. To the trash it goes!
Facing the same annoying bug. Great to know it's been here since 2015 with no solution (or feedback that I've seen) from the company. Amazing.
Deleting GOG Galaxy on Mac until disabling auto start is an option.
Please fix this GOG. More people will uninstall this if you don't give us the option.
Same problem here on OSX 10.14.6. I removed the plist file as suggested and the app no longer will start and says it needs to be reinstalled. I just dumped the app in the trash. Probably not the user experience gog is going for, but the app is a piece of crap.
I figured out how to stop it on macOS! Run Terminal and type:
sudo rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.gog.galaxy.ClientService.plist
You'll be prompted for your account password.
The next time you run GOG Galaxy it will try to reinstall this "helper" and will refuse to start if you don't. So you'll just have to delete it every time after you run GG until they finally fix it. :/
dd45acp is right. "This is not just a Windows problem. It is the same thing on OS X 10.15.5. The box is unchecked in Preferences, but it starts every single reboot. SO if it happens on both Windows and OS X I would say the fault lies with the developers and not the OS. " It's exactly what's happening on my Mac everytime I reboot it all. And of course the automatic start at boot box in the preferences window is unchecked. And GoG Galaxy doesn't even appear in the list of the programs authorized to start at launch in the OS preferences. What's going on? How can this happen? Is there a solution. Hope there is, if not I'm gonna desinstall GOG Galaxy. Thanks for answers to come.
This is not just a Windows problem. It is the same thing on OS X 10.15.5. The box is unchecked in Preferences, but it starts every single reboot. SO if it happens on both Windows and OS X I would say the fault lies with the developers and not the OS.
I have never had this issue in all my years (and computers) of using win 10 and galaxy 1.X. I unticked the option for auto start at system start up, no part of the galaxy program could be found in task manager. This makes me wonder what is going on here that it is auto-starting for some people.
Guys - where is a place to put errors of this application?
in Win10, u can go to task manage(Ctrl+shift+Esc), check the autostart tab, and deaktiv.
But for me, the option about autostart in Galaxy works fine.
Why does every app I have assume it's more important than all the others and needs to be on all the time? The option to switch auto-start off doesn't work, and it should be off as default anyway!
Why is this issue still there?!? Four years on and still no confirmation of it being GoG's or MS's fault, or of a solution. Terrible show.
There is a setting in gog galaxy "launch gog galaxy at system start". But that has no effect, gog galaxy always starts.
I know I am a little late to this discussion, but I would like to add that I have the same issue on my Mac laptop, and finally ended up having to completely uninstall the application because the settings did not work.
I tried putting in a request for support, but they are, OF COURSE, experiencing a high level of support requests, and so never respond.
I repeat, this is NOT just a Windows problem, it is the app. itself, and GOG is doing nothing to fix the problem. At least not that I have seen, so GOG Galaxy application basically does not exist!!
For everyone else who was as confused as I was... The setting is found in the drop-down menu from the little round "GOG.COM" icon at the top left. It is NOT found in the menu bar at the top-center where one would naturally expect to find it.
The Autostart option in Galaxy works as intended.
Uncheck "Launch GOG Galaxy at system startup", Reboot Windows, no trace of any Galaxy process found.
If this does not work for you it is a bug and NOT a feature request.
Thank you Alexander
