Beyond Good & Evil™

Good title

Works flawlessly on Linux via lutris-7.2-2-x86_64 runner. Really needs the widescreen fix found here: http://ps2wide.net/pc.html#bge Serious negative though in that you can not invert Y access on the mouse. It is backwards. Controllers don't seem to work with it either. Minus a couple stars for both issues.

Wing Commander ®: Privateer ™

Awesome game!

Privateer, one of my favorite games from this era! Mixing WIng Commander with Elite style trading and upgrading. Still plays great as this is a great port of it to Dosbox. Note there is no music really without Midi so you will want a Midi player. The old Sound Blaster FM audio was never good, and since software midi players are easy to find now days (used to take hardware to play this back in the day), there is no reason not to use Midi music. Linux users: - QSynth MIDI engine: https://qsynth.sourceforge.io/ To make it perform flawlessly, I had to set the MIDI driver to alsa_seq, Client name ID to pid, audio driver on the Audio tab to alsa, sample rate of 44.1khz, and the audio was a bit scratchy at 64 buffer size so I increased it to 128 and it is rock solid. - SoundFont: https://www.mediafire.com/?zo8l3dgf2989266 - This has some great instruments. If you want a comparison, the 2nd half of this vid should convince you: https://youtu.be/-UwhEyxFrns

Syndicate Plus™

Great old game, but there is another

If you are unaware, the Devs for the Syndicate series could not reuse the name, but they basically made Syndicate 3 but had to call it Satellite Reign instead. If you want to get your fix of Syndicate on modern hardware, I would highly suggest looking at that one which is also on GoG: https://www.gog.com/en/game/satellite_reign

Thief™ 3: Deadly Shadows

Not as good as Thief 1 and 2, but....

Not as good as Thief 1 and 2 for sure, and I give it a 3.5 stars when comparing and say it is worth a solid play through even without this next bit, with that next bit being that it has something special hidden 3/4th the way through that is more special than any game ever made. It is called Shalebridge Cradle and it is likely the most scary and horrifying level ever placed into a video game. Nothing else comes close to making the hair stand up on the back of your head. Nothing.. I bet if you look up the most scary levels ever in a video game, this one is at the top.

Thief™ 2: The Metal Age

Great but T:DP is better

I actually give this 4.5 stars, not 4, but since it is less than T:DP, I picked 4. The story is not as good as T:DP. The variety of enemies is not as good. I understand they wanted to create a bunch of copies of the Assassins mission in T:DP, as that level is a gem, but they got rid of the enemy variety in the process. It is the same game from beginning to end. I think there is only one or two Haunts in the entire game, and you could completely miss them, and those guys will make you sweat. They are sorely missed. The ghosts are missed. All of it. Almost always you are up against human enemies of the same types. Great but not perfect I think. More Thief, bigger missions, some new ideas, but lacking the great story and enemy variety of the first so you use the same tactics the entire game, where in T:DP you had to mix it up, depending on what you were up against.

Thief™ Gold

4.5 stars for the Gold version

The Dark Project gets 5 stars hands down as probably the best Stealth game there is, but Gold added 3 extra levels that are just OK. Some of the changes they made in Gold are not all that welcome... To justify using the mages twice for example, they removed the craymen from the lost city and replaced them with mages. The story doesn't flow as well as The Dark Project either with some inconsistencies, but I will not spoil it. With all that said, it is still a great nearly unmatched game! Dishonered tried to carry it further, but the stealth aspects of the original Thief is better IMHO. Do not forget to install TFix 1.27 full. The GoG version comes with TFix 1.26 Light, but you want the whole thing. https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134733

Independence War™ II: Edge of Chaos

Wolf's Lair mod

Though I was able to get past Wolf's Lair in game (It just slows down and chunks at the end, but as soon as you warp out, it clears up), there is a mod to just get past it that you can find here: https://www.i-war2.com/downloads/category/4-patches-fixes
