Great game for its price point to satisfy the classic Fallout itch. It doesnt do anything special or revolutionary, but instead focuses on simply fun RPG experience with a russian touch. The game runs well without any crashes or hickups and earns a top rating due to the low pricepoint.
I'll keep it short. The good stuff: Combat is excellent, I like the new systems they put in place and it is complemented by upgrade sounds. The visuals are a lot better than in the first title, again very noticable in combat. This also means the game can drop frames at critical moments in combat, which is very annoying when you like to pause a lot like me. Multiclasses are a good addition, especially when it comes to recruiting new companions, as it makes them easier to fit into your group. The bad stuff: Its sad to see how Obsidians writing took a nose-dive over their last games. It was very aparent in Tyranny, but PoE 2 shows even more signs of it. Most conversations with companions are really bad writing and the voice acting doesnt help (can I please replace Xotis accent?!). The ship battles and traveling gets annoying after a very short time, some missed opportunities there. This might sound like a 4/5 review for most people, but because I value story and writing over everything else in a CRPG, this is only a 3/5 for me, continuing Obsidians downward trend of late. Hopefully they can improve in the future again.
This is basicaly a Telltale style game for people who are getting bored with the usual telltale formula. The story starts slow, but you can feel impending doom just around the corner. I was never bored during the first hours and I appreciate that the game takes some time to introduce the characters. The artstyle is very much in line with past Daedelic titles, especially the Dark Eye games, which means hand drawn characters and backgrounds. I honestly cant wait for the next part to be released, this is definately worth your money, if you like a story heavy experience. 4/5 stars, because the animations sometimes dont show correctly when a character is talking. Hopefully an easy fix.
As a veteran of classic cRPGs, I have enjoyed my time with this game a lot. I'm rating it a 4/5 because the combat is somewhat simplistic, which can be annoying when combat is forced. That being said, the game is not primarily about fighting in my opinion. The writing is very good, the setting is just as interesting as Planescape: Torment was and the story keeps you pushing forwards. On launch I have noticed a few bugs, but nothing that completely destroys the game. If you like reading more than combat in a cRPG, this game is for you.
